Ferry to Vivekananda Rock resumes after tsunami    

A ferry carrying tourists to Vivekananda Rock Memorial offshore Kanyakumari which opened on Saturday. The world famous sunrise point was shut down following tsunami on December 26.

     Kanyakumari: Kanyakumari: India's famous tourist spot at the southernmost tip in Tamil Nadu opened on Saturday, more than a month after the deadly tsunami struck the region. The world famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial was shut down on December 26 after the seas turned choppy following the tsunami triggered by a massive earthquake in Indonesia. Tourists, who were the first to visit the memorial after the ferry services restarted, said they were elated.

    "Now they have opened it, so we can come and see it. We have been waiting for three days now. We are very happy," said Alok Baksha, a ourist. Swapna Datta, another tourist, said: "It's very pleasant here and I like it, the arrangement and all it's so good. I am very pleased to come here." Salavai Sundaram, the state minister for temples, said, "The opening of the memorial will encourage tourism in Tamil Nadu."
