It's carnival time in Goa

Locals dressed in colourful attires parading on the streets of Panjim in the annual Goa Carnival.

Panaji: Goa celebrated the second day of its carnival, which is predominantly a Christian festival, on Sunday. Giving it a secular colour, the Hindus also joined in the merry-making. This year, the carnival organisers of Margao organised a fancy dress competition for children. Other than merry-making and celebrating the festival, the main theme of the fancy dress was to bring about the spirit of unity and integrity among the children. Many children were dressed up in the garb of Gods and acted like them.

"This year the Vasco carnival committee decided that Byna beach would be the best option to make the carnival people-friendly because we wanted all communities and ages to take part in the competitions and all the other things that are going on," said Milton, president of asco Carnival Committee.
