Two girls from Ladakh selected for Everest expedition

Tsering Ladol and Tsering Chorol, the
two daring girls from Ladakh, have been
selected by the National Institute of Mountaineering for the Mount Everest Expedition 2005

Leh: Two girls with immense grit and determination have made it to the select list for an expedition to the world's highest peak Mount Everest. Tresing Chorol and Tresing Ladol from Ladakh said, that their hard work helped them in their bid for the ultimate test of endurance. It was tough going as the girls were put through a rigorous test to ascertain their fitness and resolve. The feisty girls were selected for the 2005 Everest Expedition only after a disciplined four months training regime that involved surmounting high peaks at the National Institute of Mountaineering in Uttaranchal. "I feel that they have set a goal for the young children of Ladakh and young girls. They will get an experience of two of our girls going for expedition to the world's highest peak and they will create a history in Ladakh. " said Tashi Rigzen, President of Winter Sports Club in Leh district Both the girls had also been part of an expedition to the world's highest and coldest battlefield, Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir in January this year. "When we were on our Siachen Expedition the temperature was minus 25 degrees centigrade. We have undergone many tests in the selection process. There were four girls in the all India level, out of which we two Ladakhis have been selected for the expedition. The training at National Institute of Mountaineering was very tough. But we could overcome all hurdles because we were born in the mountains of Ladakh," said Chorol.
