Dharamsala receives heavy snowfall

Dharamsala (HP): Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall on Sunday with Dharamsala receiving 45-50 cm of snow since Saturday night. This is the fourth heaviest snowfall of the season in this area. Strong icy winds also continued to sweep most parts of the state, and caused havoc by uprooting trees and disrupting power supply in the region. Not many, except the tourists, seem to be enjoying another spell of snow as they say it has cut off contacts with the rest of the country. Bipin, a local resident said, that this year it was a record snowfall. "We have never seen so much snow in this region in the month of February. This is the fourth time in the season that we are seeing so much snow. We feel that it is because of the tsunami disturbance that we are witnessing so much of climatic change and rain," said Bipin. "Traffic has been stopped. Office goers are facing problems. Though there is not much of rain now, otherwise it could have created more problems," said Pawan, another resident. Tourists are however, visiting the state in large numbers to see the white blanket, an unusual phenomena in the month of February. "We are enjoying the snowfall very much and are playing with our friends in the snow," said Sonu, a tourist. Travel agents are also jubilant as this has given a much needed boost to the tourism industry which was hit badly last year due to a flood alert. The state's upper reaches of Nadol, Talmu hills and Mandi district also received about 90 to 100 cm of snow. The Meteorological department has forecast cold wave to continue for a few more days.
