Tourists throng to Shimla for enjoying snowfall

Residents of the hilly town of Shimla enjoying the snowfall

Shimla: Hundreds of visitors are thronging Shimla to enjoy the fresh snowfall in the region. Situated at a height of 2310 metre above sea level, Shimla received fresh heavy snowfall recently, with the result that the entire city got enveloped in a white blanket. Residents said that the snowfall was good for the crops and would also herald the tourist season, which will boost the state's economy, mainly dependent on backpackers. Needless to say, tourists themselves were having a great time throwing snowballs on each other. "It is very cold here. We do not have sub-zero temperature. The whole city is white. It is like playing with the pristine beauty of the snow. I have never seen anything like this before. We all really enjoyed very much," said Bhavna, a tourist from Delhi.

The state's meteorological department said, that the whole of Himachal Pradesh was reeling under a cold wave. "In the entire Himachal Pradesh, the temperature is below normal between 3-5 degrees. There is a cold wave in the state," said Manmohan, incharge of the meteorological department in state capital Shimla. Neighbouring areas of Dalhousie, Narkanda, Manali, Chail and Kalpa also received heavy snowfall, leading to a dip in temperatures in the neighbouring states.
