LONDON, Jan 29: In a historic development, Sarah Mullally was officially confirmed as the first woman to lead the Church of England as Archbishop of Canterbury in a traditional ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral in London on Wednesday.

The cathedral became a court of law for the Confirmation of Election, the legal ceremony where the archbishop-elect legally assumes office.

Mullally was named Archbishop of Canterbury in October and she legally assumed office at St Paul's Cathedral.
