Tragic death of Indian woman in US: Boyfriend escapes to India after murder

COLUMBIA (Maryland), Jan 5 (INS): In a shocking incident that has reverberated
across communities in both the United States and India, 27-year-old Indian woman
Nikitha Rao Godishala was found dead in Columbia in Maryland.
The Howard County Police confirmed that she was found with multiple stab wounds
inside the apartment of her former boyfriend Arjun Sharma, 26, who has since
fled to India.
The police have named him as the prime suspect. They allege she was stabbed
to death on New Year’s Eve and Sharma fled to India shortly after filing a missing
person’s report.
Detectives believe the fatal attack occurred shortly after 7 pm at Sharma’s
apartment on Twin Rivers Road on December 31. On January 2, Sharma filed a missing
person’s complaint, claiming he last saw Godishala at his residence on New Year’s
Eve. The police later discovered that Sharma had boarded a flight to India,
raising suspicions about his involvement. On January 4, they executed a search
warrant at Sharma’s apartment, where Godishala’s body was found with stab wounds.
Godishala, originally from India, was living in Ellicott City, Maryland, and
worked as a data and strategy analyst. Friends and colleagues described her
as ambitious, kind-hearted and deeply committed to her career. Her sudden death
has left her family and community devastated. The body is reportedly being brought
to India with the help of the Indian embassy.
Father's statement
Nikitha Godishala's father Anand Godishala, told ANI: "Four people used to
stay in an apartment. Her ex-roommate used to take a lot of money from my daughter.
When she asked him to return the money before he flew to India, he killed her
and ran away. I request the state and the central government to hand over the
body of my daughter as soon as possible. My daughter went to Columbia four years
ago. She was working there... He was her ex-roommate; it is not right that he
was her ex-boyfriend..."
Arjun Sharma, her former partner, is now the subject of an international manhunt.
US authorities have issued an arrest warrant charging him with first- and second-degree
murder. His decision to flee immediately after filing the missing person’s report
has been interpreted as an attempt to evade justice.
While the exact motive remains under investigation, police suspect the killing
stemmed from personal and relationship-related tensions. Reports suggest that
Sharma and Godishala had a troubled past, and investigators believe the crime
may have been driven by unresolved conflict and possible obsession.
The case highlights the challenges of cross-border law enforcement, as US authorities
now seek cooperation from Indian agencies to extradite Sharma. It also underscores

PROGNOSIS: It looks a Real New Trump is emerging - courageous, balanced, powerful and disinterested. Determined to save his country from the cliff, he has done quite a few draconian things that will reduce the burden of debts of the Federal entity, like the golden handshake, stopping senseless funding, pulling out of a worthless WHO. A realisation of this never dawned upon any Opposition party in 2014 or any time thereafter, what to talk of being able to see it coming 70 years ago! The terminations are part of a large-scale exercise going on all across Fed departments and organisations to reduce wasteful Government expenditure as decided by a Trump in a mess gone berserk, and improve administrative efficiency following the whims of billionaire and his associate Elon MusK and his DOGE. It has not been shared how terminations are going to raise the efficiency bar! It looks like Trump has stolen some of the prescriptions meant for India. But the American problems are quite different.

ANALYSIS: "The standard operating procedure for deportations by aircraft used by ICE that is effective from 2012 provides for the use of restraints," says the Government. OPINION: A nutty 'new' Trump must know checking illegal immigration is his job and not theirs. And 'penalty' tariff is not a solution. However, Trump talking about "major threat" from "illegal aliens" (illegal immigration) is about what he believes, right or wrong, and to that extent he is genuine and honest; it is certainly not a pretension to prop up his political relevance. Bullies are always true to themselves. Look at India's crooked politicians shouting day in, day out to prove they are more patriotic, and to whip up public sentiments for them to ride on!
