Bondi beach, one of Australia’s most iconic tourist destinations, was hosting a Jewish Hanukkah event organized by Chabad of Bondi.

SYDNEY (Australia), Dec 14: At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured when two gunmen opened fire at a gathering at Sydney's Bondi beach on Sunday.

The attack unfolded around 6:45 pm local time on Sunday near the Bondi beach park playground, where members of the Jewish community had gathered for a Hanukkah celebration.

Medical teams and security forces were immediately deployed to the site. Four injured were transported to St Vincent’s Hospital, and one each to Royal Prince Alfred and St George Hospital.

The New South Wales Police declared the incident as a terrorist attack. One of the shooters was shot dead by a bystander after seizing his gun (see pix), while the other has been detained.

Witnesses reported the two gunmen opening fire indiscriminately, sending hundreds of beachgoers fleeing in panic.

Bomb disposal units were deployed after police discovered suspected improvised explosive devices in the vicinity.

An event titled Chanuka by the Sea was scheduled to be held near Bondi beach’s children’s playground from 5.00 pm (local time) Sunday.

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog said, “Our sisters and brothers in Sydney, Australia, have been attacked by vile terrorists in a very cruel attack on Jews who went to light the first candle of Hanukkah...“We repeat our alerts time and again to the Australian government to seek action and fight against the enormous wave of antisemitism which is plaguing Australian society.”

It is eight-day because it commemorates a miracle where oil for the Temple lamp lasted eight days instead of one. Word Hanukkah means “dedication” in Hebrew.

The CCTV footage and the video circulating on social media do not indicate any serious abnormalities in takeoff or descent, it has been confirmed. The disaster is becoming curiouser and curiouser. The flight path was not curvy. And the aircraft maintained a steady, gliding descent with its nose straight and the wings perfectly level. Many of the victims were charred beyond recognition, making identification difficult. Three hundred nineteen body parts have been sent for DNA matching with relatives to determine the identities.

But the American problems are quite different.

ANALYSIS: "The standard operating procedure for deportations by aircraft used by ICE that is effective from 2012 provides for the use of restraints," says the Government.
