Sadly, neither party seems serious about it, although mass shooting is arguably the most gripping issue America faces today! Republicans play to the gun gallery, Democrats kick the can down the road, and the rest is demagoguery. The only ones serious about change are those burying their loved ones.
OXFORD (Pennsylvania, US), Oct 26: One person was killed and six others
were injured when a gunman opened fire at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania
Saturday night during the college's homecoming weekend.
The wounded were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment. One suspect was
taken into custody, according to the police. The motive remains under investigation.
The school's homecoming festivities were taking place near the football field
when chaos broke out.
Social media and some reports have hinted at possible gang-related motives,
though this has not been officially confirmed.
Students were advised to shelter in place, and an active shooter alert was
issued and later lifted.
Witnesses told NBC Philadelphia crowds started running from reported gunfire
on the campus around 9 p.m. Saturday.
The Lincoln University tragedy is not an isolated event. The United States
has been grappling with an epidemic of mass shootings for decades.
Alarming Statistics: The US has experienced over 600 mass shootings
annually in recent years, according to the Gun Violence Archive. A “mass shooting”
is typically defined as an incident in which four or more people are shot, excluding
the shooter.
In 2023 alone, there were more mass shootings than days in the year, a grim
milestone that has become all too common, according to reports.
Root Causes: Easy access to firearms, including semi-automatic weapons,
is the main causating factor, coupled with a lack of comprehensive gun control
laws. Mental health issues also are rampant in American society. Other reasons
include social alienation, economic inequality and online radicalization. Cultural
glorification of violence may also play a arle.
Despite the frequency and severity of these events, media coverage is often
fleeting, with attention shifting quickly to other issues. Political gridlock
has stalled meaningful gun reform, with debates polarized along party lines,
with the conservatives leaning on support from the gun lobby.
Grassroots movements like March for Our Lives and Moms Demand Action continue
to push for change, but make no headway.

Earlier this month, two separate shootings at South Carolina State University
left one woman dead and a man wounded and triggered a campus-wide lockdown on
on October 4.

OPINION: A nutty 'new' Trump must know checking illegal immigration is his job and not theirs. And 'penalty' tariff is not a solution. However, Trump talking about "major threat" from "illegal aliens" (illegal immigration) is about what he believes, right or wrong, and to that extent he is genuine and honest; it is certainly not a pretension to prop up his political relevance. Bullies are always true to themselves. Look at India's crooked politicians shouting day in, day out to prove they are more patriotic, and to whip up public sentiments for them to ride on!
