Ghost haunts a Haryana village

Sangoi (Karnal): Fear is gripping a Haryana village of a ghostly shadow that targets only girls or newly-wed women and the women in Sangoi village of Karnal district are spending sleepless nights for the past one week. The womenfolk keep themselves restricted to their homes by the time it's dusk. All of them fear the 'shadow,' which is said to generally appear before any female in the village when it's dark. Gita, one of the village women, said: "The ghost visits anybody at its will and is visible only to those girls or women on whose cots (bedding) it sits. It misbehaves with girls and with daughter-in-laws." Villagers say that the presence of such a weird 'shadow' in the village has terrorised everyone, and most of them appear to have lost their peace of mind. Balli, a young girl, said: "I was sleeping on the terrace with my mother and brother. He (ghost) came and touched me. When I tried to chase him, he vanished." The local police, however, say it's the fear of "Mr. Nobody" which has, perhaps, spread a fear psychosis in the village. Baljit Singh, in-charge of the Police Control Room for Karnal, said: "These ghost- spirits are merely the imagination of villagers. We are patrolling both at night and during the day. But no one has reported any such incident." At the same time, the villagers themselves are apprehensive about this eerie entity and often wonder whether it is a ghost or a human being.
