BALCO workers solemnise wedding of poor Chhattisgarh girl

Korba (Chattisgarh): Samaritan employees of Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) pooled in their resources to solemnise the wedding of Sarita Das, a poor girl from Risda Bhadrapara village in Chhattisgarh's Korba District. Sarita and Shanker Das from Parsabhatha village were to wed at one of the State Government's 'Samoohika Vivaha' mass marriage schemes for the underprivileged. Unfortunately, the marriage was called off since Sarita's family possessed a card for the homeless, but not a card to establish that they live below the poverty line, a must to participate in such marriages. While members of Sarita and Shanker Das's families were taken aback by this unexpected jolt, the matter attracted the attention of some 'Anganwadi' (nursery school) workers. They instantly got in touch with BALCO employees who came up with the hearty gesture. "Anganwadi workers approached me. Then, I got in touch with the BALCO employees, who readily gave their consent to support the marriage," said Aniruddha Chandra. "It was one of the finest weddings in my community. I am very happy," said Sharada Das, Sarita's mother. The newly weds expressed their gratitude to the employees of BALCO and to Aniruddha Chandra for bringing joy in their lives. "I am really grateful to Aniruddha Bhaiya and the BALCO employees for doing so much for me. Nothing could have been possible without their help," said Sarita Das.
