Life term convict marries in Rajasthan
Dhaulpur
(Rajasthan): Gagan Sharma, 24, who until the other
day was at pains over being chained with steel handcuffs,
tied the nuptial knot with Sudha on Saturday after
being paroled. Sudha, however, will have to wait for
14 years to start a full-fledged marriage with him.
Two years ago, Gagan, having realised his mistake,
vowed to transform himself. Serving his jail term
at Rajasthan's Udaipur Jail, he has taken up studies
and is keen to come out as a law graduate. Gagan was
brought to Dhaulpur, his hometown, where Henna was
smeared on his hands. He went through all wedding
rituals in handcuffs. Gagan, who hails from Lalpur
Village in Dhaulpur District was sentenced to life
for murdering a student leader in 2003. "I was convicted
in 2005, and then, I restarted with my education.
After my graduation, I want to pursue law. With my
education on, my family wanted me to get married to
which I agreed. I want to join the main stream of
society," said Gagan. Sudha's father, Bhagwan Sharma,
a resident of Ramakhera in Dhaulpur said that his
son-in-law's family is well-known to him for years
and he had no problem in marrying off his daughter
to Gagan. "Both families are well aware of each other
since long. Gagan is a graduate, today he is in prison
but will definitely be free tomorrow. I have no regret
in my daughter getting married to him," said Bhagwan
Sharma.
