Boy credited with healing power draws devotees

Yamunanagar (Haryana): Many people in Haryana are visiting a four-year-old boy seeking his blessings, as he is believed to have healing powers. The boy named Gurmeet Singh is happy to get so much importance and an unexpected showering of love and affection from parents. It all started one night when Gurmeet started asking his parents to take him to the nearby Lord Shiva Temple. But his demand was ignored thinking the child's demand was just an insistence to move out of the house or visit some new place. But the parents soon realised their was something amiss, as Gurmeet did not sleep till he was taken to the temple early next morning. It was at this time that the parents discovered that their child has some healing powers. Today, Gurmeet plays like any normal child, but obliges with his "healing" touch. "I had a severe headache for the past many weeks. But ever since I received his blessings, I have felt a vast difference. I came again to seek a cure for a recurrent pain in my legs and hands, and got immense relief once again," Sonu Kaur, who travelled four miles (6.4 km) to reach "the healing child". The local doctors have rubbished the claim of Gurmeet that he has healing powers. "Claims that a mere touch could heal a patient, and a patient himself admitting to being cured, all have a very simple psychological reason behind them. These are patients with psychosomatic problems. They might not have any real physical problems and it could only be a mental issue about a disease. These problems could in fact be treated by self-healing also," said Doctor Divya Mangala, a psychiatrist. Some people call this incident nothing but a gimmick ahead of Mahashivratri Festival, which will be marked on February 16 by Hindus.
