ISKCON devotees take out procession in New Delhi

      New Delhi: Hundreds of devotees belonging to the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) took out a procession of Hindu deity lord Jagannath in New Delhi on Monday. The procession or 'yatra' was along the lines of the famous traditional "Rath Yatra" (chariot festival) of lord Jagannath, held in Puri District of Orissa every year. The devotees sang hymns and danced in front of a chariot carrying the limbless wooden images of three deities - lord Jagannath, lord Balabhadra and their sister Subhadra. Though the original festival falls in the months of July or August, ISKCON takes out the procession across several cities during different time of the year with an aim to create awareness about the yatra and their organisation. "We are taking out the Jagannath Yatra in Delhi today. The lord has come out to bless his devotees. It is believed that whoever pulls the chariot of the lord is rid of all evils and attains salvation," said Brajananandas, ISKCON spokesperson. Lord Jagannath is the incarnation of lord Vishnu, the preserver, one of the trinity of the Hindu pantheon. The other two are Brahma, the creator and Shiva, the destroyer.
