DamDami Taksal chief wants PM to take initiative
to resolve Sikhs' issues

by Ravinder Singh Robin

Chowk Mehta (Amritsar): DamDami Taksal, the radical Sikh organisation, has demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take initiative to resolve all concerned issues of Sikhs' social, religious and political organisations. DamDami Taksal chief says that one of the main demands of their organisation is that the Amritsar city should be declared as "the holy city" of the country. Harnam Singh Khalsa, the chief of DamDami Taksal Bhindernwala, has said that the Prime Minister Dr. Singh should show interest in resolving issues that concern various groups of Sikhs. "If the Indian Government is really serious to resolve various issues of the Sikhs, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh should take first step by calling all the major Sikh organizations and discuss all unresolved matters." Justifying militant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwla's fight with the Indian forces in 80s, Harnam Singh Khalsa said that Sikhs never ever forgot the Indian Army's invasion and attack on their holiest shrine Golden Temple in 1984. However, Harnam said that the Government should show genuine willingness to address various national and international issues including Sikh Identity, turban and Kirpan issues for their and resolves them on priority basis. Security forces had launched a campaign codenamed "Operation Blue Star" in 1984 to flush out a Sikh militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala and several of his followers, who had taken shelter in Amritsar Golden Temple. Meanwhile, several devotees on Thursday assembled at the headquarter of DamDami Taksal "Gurdashan Parkash" Gurdwara at Chowk Mehta to participate in the three-day programmes that started today to mark the completion of 25 years of "Operation Blue Star". On June 6, main programmes will be held at the Akal Takhat, the high temporal seat of the Sikhs and at the Headquarter of DamDami Taksal "Gurdashan Parkash" Gurdwara at Chowk Mehta.
