Ram Navami Celebrated With Religious Fervour

NEW DELHI: Thousands thronged temples on the occasion of Ram Navami on Sunday. With this the nine-day Navratra celebrations came to an end.

Ram Navami is one of the most important festivals for the Vaishnava sect. In some parts it marks the birth of Lord Ram. Others say it marks the day when Lord Ram sought the blessings of Goddess Durga before waging a war against the demon king Ravana.

On this day, temples are richly decorated with the idols of Lord Ram, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshman. In Delhi, people visited various temples and made offerings of sweets, flowers and fruits. Most people observe fast a day before Ram Navami. They believe that fasting will secure them a place in the heaven.
