Good
Friday Imparts Message of Forgiveness
NEW
DELHI: Early morning masses, special prayers and
services were held in churches across the country
on 29 March to mark the occasion of Good Friday, the
day of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
In the Capital, churches conducted special meditation
services with priests urging worshippers to imbibe
the spirit of forgiveness preached by Jesus Christ.
Catholics living in and around Thiruvananthapuram
held prayers in various churches where the main discussion
focussed on religious tolerance. Archbishop
Syril Mar Basselios, head of the Catholics in Kerala's
Capital, reminded a huge gathering at St Joseph's
Cathedral, near Palayam, of the need for putting into
practice the message of Lord Jesus. He said, "Today
India is in turmoil because of incidents like Godhra
in Gujarat. The common people are suffering at the
cost of religion. God lives in the hearts of humans.
Temples, churches, mosques are man-made prayer halls."
In
other parts of the country also Good Friday was observed
in the churches.
The Christian community in India accounts for over
three per cent of the one billion-strong population.
