Tamil Nadu villagers search for remains in tsunami debris

Keelavaachery (Tamil Nadu): A month after the killer tsunami struck India's southern coastline, residents of several villages are returning to pick up the remains of their houses. Keelavaachery is one such village which was completely washed out by the huge tidal waves. Several poverty-struck fishermen families, who once had their homes, now sift through mounts of debris for whatever they can recover to rebuild their lives. Villagers say though this would not be enough but it would at least help them last a few days. The December 26 tsunami has left nearly 300,000 dead or missing around the Indian ocean from Somalia to Thailand. In India more than 16,000 people are dead or presumed dead.
