Temples, restaurants shut down after Delhi serial bomb blasts

New Delhi: In the wake of the serial bomb blasts that rocked Delhi on Saturday evening on the eve of Diwali, the Delhi Administration and the Delhi Police has ordered all temples to shut down ahead of the festival of Diwali. These include the Sai Baba Temple in Khan Market area, the Birla Mandir and the Hanuman Mandir. Crowds of devotees that had gathered to pray before their respective deities were turned away from the doors of various temples soon after the bomb blasts struck crowded markets in the Indian capital between 5.30 and 6.30 p.m., claiming 48 lives officially and leaving close to 85 persons injured. Panic struck residents when a hoax call was made saying that a bomb had been placed in the famous Hanuman Mandir in the central locality of Connaught Place. Traffic across the city has slowed down as each vehicle is being scrutinised for suspected militants.

Almost all restaurants in prominent places of the Indian capital like Greater Kailash, Pandara Road, Connaught Place and Vasant Vihar have shut down in the wake of the blast incident and the red alert sounded by the Delhi Police. Cinema halls and multiplexes in the National Capital Region (NCR) have reportedly also stopped screening movies and movie fans are either returning to their homes or are being turned away. The government has advised people to go back home at the earliest so that their tense relatives can heave a sigh of relief.
