Situation calm in Mau, curfew relaxed

     Lucknow: The curfew clamped on October 14 on Mau town of Uttar Pradesh was relaxed for three to eight hours on Friday in wake of the festive season and also by looking at the fact that no major inicdent of violence had taken place in last few days. 'For the safer side, certain period of time had been defined for the curfew. In the southern area of Mau, curfew was relaxed between 0900 and 1200 hrs and again from 1500 to 1700 hrs. While in northern part of Mau, time was between 0900 to 1700 hrs.', said Police Superintendent Sujit Pandey. Adding to it, he said that some kind of special security arrangements have been done for special namaz on the last friday of Ramzan. In the violence, 421 people were arrested and six were seized for looting during the riots, he added. The curfew was clamped after a communal clash took place between two community on October 13 in which about nine persons were killed and over 50 were injured.
