closes 113 points down at 7686
Mumbai:
Amid broad based selling pressure across all sectors,
the stock market on Friday lost further ground as the country's
benchmark index ended below 7700 mark. The Bombay Stock Exchange
(BSE) 30-share sensitive index closed 112.85 points or 1.4
percent down at 7,685.64, after hitting an intraday low of
7,656.15. The benchmark index has lost 2.9 per cent or 235
points in five trading sessions. In the broader markets, the
National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty also closed 1.4 per cent
or 34 points down at 2,318. Heavy selling pressure continued
amongst index heavyweights, which kept the indices under pressure.
Selling was witnessed in most stocks from the IT, auto, banking
and metal sectors. Tata Motors at Rs 461 that slipped by Rs
24 or 4.9 per cent, Wipro at Rs 356, which shed 4.3 per cent
or Rs 16, Bajaj Auto (down 4.2 per cent), TCS (down 3.1 per
cent), Larsen & Toubro (down 3.1 per cent) and Maruti Udyog
(down 3 per cent) were the key losers of the day. Bharti Tele,
Tata Power, ICICI Bank and Gujarat Ambuja Cements, however,
managed to stay afloat in an overall bearish market.
