Toll in Kanpur building collapse rises to 13
Kanpur:
The toll in the building collapse case here rose to 13 today,
and the number of injured rising to 30. Officials said that
13 people, including five children, got killed with 30 others
injured when an old building collapsed here in Kanpur after
a gas cylinder explosion. Officials said that the toll could
rise as six of the injured were in a critical condition after
the century-old, two-storey building fell on Wednesday night.
The injured, they said, were being treated in the city hospital.
"I don't know how the incident happened but people are saying
that the cylinder on the top floor burst and the whole building
fell down," said Shanti Devi, an injured. Officials said that
rescue operations were going on in full swing to find more people
who may be trapped in the debris.
