assault case adjourned to Nov 11
Chennai:
A sessions court in Chennai today adjourned the hearing
of the Radhakrishnan assault case till November 11 after the
Kanchi Seer, Jayendra Saraswati, filed a petition saying that
he was unable to reach the court to due to heavy rains and water
logging across the city. The counsel for Kanchi Seer, Karthikayen,
said that the seer could not be present in the court today due
to the continuous rains. Two other remand prisoners Appu and
Kathiravan, who are also the accused in the case, were not brought
to the court for the same reason. While all other accused were
present in the court, third Additional Sessions Judge A R Selvakumar
adjourned the case to November 11. Earlier, hearing in the case
was adjourned till today following a petition that said that
seer was unable to attend the court due to a back ailment. G.
Radhakrishanan, a former aide of the seer, was assaulted way
back in 2002. He had allegedly exposed the wrongdoings in the
Kanchi Mutt after which he, his wife and an attendant were attacked.
Besides, Seer is also accused of masterminding the murder of
Sankarraman, a former Kanchi Mutt official. Meanwhile, the Supreme
Court has agreed to transfer the Sankararaman murder case proceedings
to Pondicherry from Tamil Nadu following the Shankaracharya's
plea on the ground that fair trial was not possible in the state.
