UP MLA Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari surrenders

(Uttar Pradesh): Independent state legislature Mukhtar
Ahmad Ansari, who has FIR against him for allegedly inciting
communal riots in Mau, surrendered before a local court here
today. Sources said Mukhtar along with several of his supporters
went to the local court this morning and surrendered before
a judge. Mau police had lodged an FIR against over 500 people
including Ansari and BJP member of Legislative Council Ramji
Singh for inciting the riots, in which nine persons were killed
and about 40 people injured in the town on October 13 over
Dussehra celebrations. Police on Sunday, had conducted a number
of raids in Lucknow and Gazipur to nab Ansari. He was seen
defying curfew, travelling in a vehicle with armed men during
the riots. Afzal Ansari, Samajwadi Party MP from Ghazipur
and elder brother of Mukhtar Ansari has alleged his brother
was being framed at the behest of the Raj Bhawan. ''Raj Bhawan
is forcing the government to take action against Mukhtar who
had done nothing wrong in Mau district,'' Afzal said. The
MP also showed the media a CD exhibiting how Mukhtar on the
particular day of communal violence urged people to maintain
harmony. Meanwhile, the indefinite curfew, which was clamped
in the town of Mau on October 14 is was relaxed for the first
time in ten days in some areas on Monday. Curfew was relaxed
for two hours at a time in Nizamuddin, Hydel Colony, Power
House Colony and Domampura.
