National Security Guards celebrates 21st Raising Day

Manesar: India's elite commando force, the National Security Guards (NSG) on Sunday celebrated its 21st Raising Day here at Manesar. NSG, a Central contingency force raised in 1985 as a national response towards combating terrorism in all its manifestations, has conducted a number of operations in its 20 years of existence with a near cent percent success rate. Popularly known as the Black Cats, due to the black dungarees they are mostly seen clad in, NSG commandos are among the best commando forces in the world and have to pass through a strict regimen to be qualified into the elite force.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil who was present at the occasion along with other senior members of the NSG said, that although the NSG was a small force in terms of the number of people, it was a big one to reckon with given its capabilities. "We have been told that NSG is a small force in terms of number but looking at its ability it's the force which is well respected by people," said Patil. Speaking on the occasion, Patil said, that terrorism was a never- ending phenomenon. With terrorists getting high-tech it was necessary for the country's security forces to be more alert. "Terrorists are thinking and coming up with new technologies. So our police have also to think and fight against them (terrorists). One will think how to spread sadness but the other has to think how to protect people form this sadness. This is an ever ending race and our officers and youngsters in force should always be ready, this is our desire," Patil added. During the celebrations, the commandos demonstrated various skills. Medals were also awarded to them. The NSG's National Bomb Data Centre at Maneaser is the sixth such centre in the world credited with providing expertise in post- blast investigation. It maintains a 'Data Bank' on explosives and incidents of explosions for the defence and police forces.
