BDR
men cross border, assault, loot villagers
New
Delhi: Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) personnel recently crossed
the international border near Hili in South Dinajpur (West
Bengal), and assaulted villagers before decamping with a huge
booty. Police officials said that BDR personnel fired two
rounds and snatched a motorcycle, a mobile phone and cash
from the villagers. Police superintendent Baran Mandal said
the incident occurred on Saturday evening near the BSF's Bhimpur
border outpost, adding, by the time BSF personnel could come
to the rescue, BDR personnel had already fled from the spot.
Officials said that parts of the torn uniforms from the BDR
personnel were also recovered from the village. They said
that the BDR 15 Rifles Battalion was posted at Bhaigarh outpost
across the border. Reports said that the incident took place
after villagers' accosted two BDR personnel, who raided the
house of one Samsur Mondal and allegedly tried to assault
the women. Twenty odd BDR jawans came and fired two rounds
before fleeing with their companions and the booty. Officials
said that this was the first time this year such an incident
had taken place. A few years ago, a BDR jawan had strayed
into Indian Territory but was handed back during a flag meeting
between the BSF and BDR.
