Three killed in blast near Dal lake in Srinagar
by Bilal Butt

Srinagar: At least three persons have been killed and 35 injured in a massive explosion outside the corporate headquarters of state-owned Jammu and Kashmir Bank on Wednesday. The blast occurred around 10.15 a.m. and was followed by some gunshots, sources said, adding that several vehicles, including the escort car of former minister and MLA Usman Majid, were damaged in the exlposion. It was not immediately known whether Majid was among the injured. Police believe that a vehicle laden with RDX was used by militants to trigger the explosion, which was so powerful that it was heard several kilometers away from the scene. The bomb blast scene presented a gory site with mangled pieces of vehicles and blood smeared parts of dead bodies strewn there. Witnesses fear that the casualty figures could go up as the area was crowded with office workers and shoppers. Wednesday's blast came a day after another blast had taken place in Tangmarg where PDP leader Ghulam Hassan Mir was addressing a public meeting. At least two people were injured in that incident. Police in Jammu and Kashmir are now attempting to piece together clues in order to find out who was behind the two attacks.
