elections: polling for 15 seats goes off peacefully
Patna:
Polling in the second lap of the third phase of the Bihar
Assembly elections in 15 of Bihar's 243 assembly constituencies
in four Naxalite-hit districts went off peacefully with about
47 per cent turn out. No untoward incident was reported from
any of the four districts which voted today amidst heavy security,
Election Commission sources said. The polling which was somewhat
dull in the first half, saw a relatively higher turn out later
on, sources added. During the polling, Indian Air Force helicopters
patrolled the skies over the four districts, namely East Champaran,
West Champaran, Sitamarhi and Madhubani at intervals, besides
nearly 40,000 central troops and state police who supervised
security arrangements on the ground. With completion of today's
polling in 15 constituencies, the elections for 202 Assembly
segment out of total 243 had been completed so far in the first,
second and third phases of voting which took place on October
18, 26 and November 13 respectively. The fourth phase of polls
in the rest 41 constituencies will take place on November 19.
Counting of votes in all the constituencies will be taken up
on November 22, and the election process will be completed by
November 23.
