It's all well with Harbhajan and Tendulkar: BCCI (Go To Top)

Thiruvananthapuram: Today, the BCCI Secreary Mr.S.K.Nair welcomed the decision taken by the International Cricket Council( ICC) regarding the Harbhajan Singh bowling action, while addressig media at Thiruvananthapuram. Expressing his satisfaction, he said that the decision also will be a great help for all bowlers through out the world. On Saturday, a press lease issued by ICC had said, "there is no doubt that the action analysed in Australia showed Harbhajan with an action that is in with accordance with the regulations." Earlier, over the clearance of Harbhajan Singh's action, ICC had clarified that he was not suspended from bowling despite his action in match situation not being consistent with the one he bowled with during an independent analysis only because the video footage of the concerned match was "inconclusive". As per the ICC regulations provided in the Illegal Bowling Review process, a bowler would be immediately suspended if his action submitted to an independent expert's anaylysis did not match with which he bowled in the match when he was reported. For the review of his suspected action, ICCl had called on the services of one of the world's leading cricket biomechanists, Marc Portus, to determine the legality of Harbhajan Singh's bowling action.

Harbhajan was reported to the ICC twice within a short span of three months. His action first came under scrutiny in 1998 before he was reported in December last year, on the tour of Bangladesh, and again in March during the series against Pakistan. "How many times [should] a bowler have to undergo the test, for which he has already been cleared?, he had asked. The ICC, however, has insisted that no player can ever be permanently cleared. About Tendulkar Nair said that Indian master blaster Sachin Tendulkar's health condition is stable now and slowly recovering from the surgery. Sachin Tendulkar had underwent through an operation on his left elbow at Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth by its orthopaedic surgeon Andrew Wallace. Dr. Wallace had informed the treatment was successful and there were no complications. He had hoped that Tendulkar would be able to return to playing cricket only after four months. This treatment would put the 32-year-old batsman out of the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka in August and probably the tour of Zimbabwe that follows in September as well. Last year also, the tennis elbow injury forced Tendulkar skip the ICC Champions Trophy in England as well as the first two Tests against Australia. On the issue of the forthcoming Sri Lanka and Pakistan tour by Indian cricket team Nair told reporters that the working committe of the BCCI will be held at Trivandrum on June 2nd and 3rd. He informed that the working committe will discuss various issues like the Srilanka and Pakistan tour.
