Erotic oil raises bomb scare at House of Lords

London: A security cop raised a bomb scare at the House of Lords after rubbing on an "erotic" body lotion. The cop reportedly raised an alarm after a bomb detector he was using, tracked large traces of glycerine used in explosives. According to The Sun , he alerted the officials and the House of Lords was immediately evacuated. However, the cop later realised that the glycerine detected was contained in the Eros massage oil that he had applied all over himself after buying it at an Erotica exhibition. "It's jolly good stuff, chaps. I can thoroughly recommend it", The Sun quoted the embarrassed cop as saying.

Pak opens ports to ships from India

Karachi: International ships carrying goods from four Indian ports - Mumbai, Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Kandla have been allowed entry into the two Pakistani ports - Karachi and Gwadar. According to The News, the Pakistan Central Board of Revenue has amended, updated and reformed the whole system of presentation of customs documents at the arrival of ships and for subsequent clearance of imported or exported goods and trans-shipment cargo under the proposed Pakistan Customs Computerised System (PACCS). The date has not been notified yet but the Pakistan Customs has already issued a detailed procedure for the handling of ships at the two terminals - Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) and Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT). The paper quoted some sources as saying that ships coming from Indian ports have been given an advantage of only 12 hours early declaration of their manifests where as foreign ships coming from other than Indian ports would have to declare all their manifests 18 hours before their arrival.

Hillary in dead heat with Guiliani for next US prez (Go To Top)

New York: New York's Democratic Senator and former U.S.First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and former New York Governor Rudy Giuliani are running neck and neck in the race for the White House in 2008, if a poll carried out by the Quinnipiac University is to be believed. According to the survey, which was reported by the New York Post, Clinton and Guiliani are presently in a statistical tie - 43 to 44 percent - among voters nationwide. Giuliani, however,is way ahead of Clinton when it comes to popularity. Forty-eight percent of voters say they have a favorable view of "America's mayor" and just 12 percent view him negatively, most probably because of the larger than life image that he projected during 9/11. Clinton, on the other hand, is viewed favorably by 34 percent of those surveyed, while 29 percent view her unfavorably. The poll of 1,534 voters, who were surveyed between March 2 and 7, also found Clinton in a virtual dead heat with another potential GOP presidential candidate, Arizona Senator John McCain. She has 41 percent to his 43 in a hypothetical race. Clinton has the backing of 48 percent of America's female voters. None of the three, Clinton, Giuliani or McCain, have said whether they plan to run in 2008.

India fails to notch win in Mohali (Go To Top)

Mohali: Pakistan staged an incredible fightback to save the first cricket Test match against India from the jaws of defeat, finding an unlikely hero in Kamran Akmal who slammed a maiden century under immense pressure here on Saturday. The 23-year-old Akmal produced a match-turning 109 and shared a record 186-run seventh wicket partnership with Abdul Razzak (71) to thwart India's march for a victory on the fifth and final day which saw fortunes change dramatically for the visitors. When the Pakistanis started the day at 257 for six, it was expected that India would wrap up the innings in the first session itself. But instead Pakistan, who had conceded a first innings lead of 204, rode on the wicketkeeper-batsman's brilliance to declare their second innings at 496 for nine, giving India an improbable target of 293 from 25 overs. India were 85 for one in 17 overs when the match was called off. Virender Sehwag was the batsman to be dismissed for 36 while Gautam Gambhir remained unbeaten on 32.
