Razzaq hits 63, poor weather frustrates Pakistan

Dharamsala: Poor weather again frustrated Pakistan in the build-up to their first test series in India for six years following a truncated day two in the warm-up game against an Indian Board President's XI today. All-rounder Abdul Razzaq provided a bright spot, top-scoring with an aggressive 63 for the only half century of the innings before Pakistan were 273 all out on the verge of lunch in the three-day match. The home team had reached 91 for one when poor light midway through the afternoon session forced the players indoors at this Himalayan hill station with play eventually called off as gloomy conditions persisted.

India defeats China in first round of Davis Cup opening match

New Delhi: India's Harsh Mankad defeated Sun Peng of China in the Davis Cup opening match in New Delhi today. Twenty-five year old Mankad defeated Peng by 7-5,6-3, 6-2, giving India a 1-0 lead. Indians are fancying their chances as Chinese are inexperienced on grass courts as they mostly play on hard courts. Besides Mankad, the Indian squad includes Leander Paes, Prakash Amritraj, son of tennis legend Vijay Amritraj and Mahesh Bhupathi. The second round match would be between Prakash Amritraj and Wang Yu of China. The top Indian doubles pair, Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, would face Yu and Zhu Ben-Qiang of China in the doubles rubber on Saturday.
