Violence in Andhra after TDP leader's killing

     Warangal: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists today went on a rampage after one of their senior party leaders - Paritalaravi - was killed in a blast in Warangal district. Party activists set on fire several vehicles, including state-run buses, in protest. Police said it was still not clear who was behind Paritalaravi's killing. The powerful Leftist rebels Naxalites are active in the state. In the past they targeted several TDP leaders, including the party chief Chandrababu Naidu when he was chief minister.

Junior Sankaracharya's judicial custody extended till Feb 3

     Kanchipuram: A Kanchipuram court today extended the judicial remand of Kanchi Mutt's Junior Pontiff, Vijayendra Saraswathi till February 3. Vijayendra was arrested on January 10 in the Sankararaman murder case. The remand period of the junior Shankaracharya expired today. He has been jailed in connection with the Sankararaman murder case. The junior pontiff was arrested on January 10 in connection with the September 3, 2004 murder of the temple official A. Sankararaman, and was remanded in judicial custody till January 24. He is currently lodged in the Chennai central prison. He was taken to Kanchipuram from the Chennai Central prison, where he is being kept.

Ravi Subramaniam's remand extended till Feb 3 (Go To Top)

     Kanchipuram: A Kanchi court today extended the judicial remand of Ravi Subramaniam, an accused who turned approver in the Sankaraman murder case, up to 3rd February. Ravi has been in custody since 27th December 2004 in connection with the Sanakaraman murder case. He was likely to turn approver in the Radhakrishnan assault case also. The judicial custody was extended by the order First Class Magistrate G Uttamaraj. Police got a shot in the arm when Ravi turned approver in this sensational case in which Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati and his junior Vijayendra Saraswati are the first and second main accused.
