'Pride and Prejudice' voted most romantic classic of all time (Go To Top)

     London: Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice has left behind classics like 'Gone With The Wind', Wuthering Heights and 'Rebecca' in being voted as the most romantic novel of all time. Pride and Prejudice, published in 1813, which rocked TV audiences in the 1990's, has also beat Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre in a survey of members of the 700-strong Romantic Novelists' Association. This is the heartland of romantic fiction and these are novels that have stood the test of time", BBC qouted author Jenny Haddon, a member of the Romantic Novelists' Association, as saying.

     The top five were: 1. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 2. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 3. Gone With the Wind - Margaret Mitchell 4. Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier 5. Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte

George Michael's Careless Whisper voted top British pop single (Go To Top)

     London: A new poll conducted by The Sun suggests that George Michael's Careless Whisper is the greatest British pop single of the past 25 years. Michael beat Robbie Williams' Angels that came in the fourth place with nin percent votes. George got 14 per cent of the votes for his 1984 hit. Oasis came a close second with Noel Gallagher's 1995 song Wonderwall scoring 12 per cent. Kate Bush came third with Wuthering Heights that earned ten per cent of the votes.

ET scene voted greatest tearjerker ever (Go To Top)

     London: ET might have heralded a new beginning for movies based on science fiction, but a new poll conducted by Channel 4 has voted the movie as the biggest tearjerker ever. According to The Sun, the poll conducted on 70,000 people voted the moment when alien ET leaves Elliott to return to his spaceship as the weepiest ever. The weepy climax of Tom Hanks' 1999 hit The Green Mile came second followed by Leonardo DiCaprio sinking beneath the waves in 1997 blockbuster Titanic.

Spielberg's 'War of the Worlds', not old wine in new bottle (Go To Top)

     Washington: Steven Spielberg's upcoming science- fiction flick 'War of the Worlds' is not a remake of George Pal's 1953 film version, says its producer Kathleen Kennedy. "In no way is this movie trying to be a remake of the '50s movie. It really is much more inspired by the H.G. Wells," Zap2It quoted Kennedy as saying. Spielberg also confirmed that there is no comparison between the two movies and that even online fans have speculated that his aliens will move about in the same mechanical tripods that are described in the novel. "There's not one message that assumes we'll be doing George Pal's boomerangs with the green lights on both wingtips, you know? There's not been one mention that maybe there'll be flying saucers," the report quoted him as saying. Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise plays a dockworker in Spielberg movie, whereas in Pal's movie protagonist was a scientist.

     London: Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt threw a star-studded party on Saturday at their home in Beverly Hills to celebrate Aniston's 36th birthday, giving rise to speculations that they may get back together. According to the Sun, the couple, which had announced their separation a month ago, stood side by side to welcome the guests, which included Mel Gibson, Morgan Freeman, Gwen Stefani, Cindy Crawford and California governor and former actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Sienna Miller in no hurry to wed Jude Law (Go To Top)

London: Sienna Miller has said that she is in no hurry to tie the knot with her fiancie Jude Law and will not be marrying him for at least one year. "I'm not going to get married this year, I would say if I was. My sister and Jude's sister are both getting married this year. There's no rush, we're just happy to be engaged," the Daily Mail quoted Miller, who was expected to tie the knot the summer, as saying. Law had proposed to the stunning actress on Christmas Day and Miller was reportedly so impatient to marry Law that she's been visiting London's most exclusive jewellers searching for a ring to equal her diamond engagement band. Law had divorced fashion designer-actress Sadie Frost in October 2003 after a six-year marriage and three children.

'Ghost' pottery scene voted most romantic film moment ever (Go To Top)

     London: The pottery scene between Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze in 'Ghost' has been voted the most romantic film moment of all time. In the survey by Blockbusters Video, the scene, in which Swayze has his shirt off and sits behind Moore while she's trying to mould an ashtray out of clay, beat the moment in 'Titanic' where Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet 'fly' at the ship's prow. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan meeting for the first time in 'You've Got Mail' came third, while Meg's New Year kiss with Billy Crystal in 'When Harry Met Sally' was placed fourth.

      Top six film moments: 1. Ghost - Sam and Molly's passionate pottery scene. 2. Titanic - Jack and Rose fly across the Atlantic. 3. You've Got Mail - Joe and Kathleen meet face to face in the park. 4. When Harry Met Sally - Harry and Sally turn friendship into love over a New Year's kiss. 5. Mel Gibson tones down his 'Passion' (Go To Top)

     Sydney: Hollywood mogul Mel Gibson has reportedly toned down his 2004 hit 'The Passion of the Christ' and will release the low-violence version next month. According to Daily Variety, the director is trimming five to six minutes of violent scenes ahead of the film's March 11 release in US cinema halls. Gibson noted that many people had avoided the film because of its gruesome portrayal of Jesus Christ being tortured by Roman troops. The new version goes easier on the brutal details of the last days of Christ. Last year the film had caused huge controversy in US, with Jewish leaders accusing Gibson of anti-Semitism by portraying Jews as responsible for Christ's death.

Paris Hilton tries travellers' lingerie at airport (Go To Top)

     London: Reality TV stars Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie reportedly emptied travellers' suitcases at an airport and tried on the passengers fancy lingerie. According to Femalefirst the two looked through the strangers' belongings while working at a US airport for popular reality TV show 'The Simple Life'. Their latest stunts will be aired on the new series of the successful MTV programme.

Harry squirms under 'wicked stepmother' jibes (Go To Top)

     London: Prince Harry, who has lately courted much controversy for his flamboyant ways, is reportedly finding it difficult to accept his father's marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles, especially with his friends taunting him about his 'wicked stepmother' According to the Daily Mail, official statements said that both William and Harry were 'delighted' for their father. However, an insider said, "Everyone knows this is incredibly difficult for Harry. He has never warmed to Camilla. He doesn't like to be in the same house as her." Harry is reportedly staying at Highgrove with Charles and Camilla. However, he has asked William to join him to offer moral support saying, "It's getting a bit crowded in here, isn't it?"

Naomi Campbell is no fan of plastic surgery (Go To Top)

     London: Super model Naomi Campbel is hoping that she won't have to go in for plastic surgery to maintain her looks as she ages, as she believes that she has inherited her grandmom's superior skin. "I am not against having plastic surgery, especially if I had an accident, but I wouldn't do it now. I am living in hope that I have inherited skin as great as my grandmother's," Femalefirst quoted Naomi as saying.

Clint Eastwood wanted to quit films in the 80's (Go To Top)

     London: Veteran Hollywood actor Clint Eastwood would not have got Oscar nominations for his Million Dollar Baby if he had missed out on doing movies like 'Unforgiven' and 'In The Line of the Fire' in the 1990s, which he claims revitalized his interest for doing films. "I probably would have retired years ago if I hadn't found interesting things to do. Especially in the '80s, you know, that was a transition period, but then the '90s were pretty good, Clint was quoted by Britain's Empire magazine as saying. "I bought out Unforgiven, a story I'd had for many years and sat on, there was In The Line Of Fire, and A Perfect World which I hadn't planned on being in, but I did because Kevin (Costner) said, 'Oh it will be great.' "So I was playing guys, older people, who have certain regrets, certain problems", he added.
