Washington: Pop diva Britney Spears' father Jamie got the biggest shock of his life on September 18 when his daughter turned an engagement party into a surprise wedding ceremony. Jamie had turned up at the private home in Studio City, Los Angeles, for Britney's engagement party, but didn't read the surprise invitation that he received upon his arrival properly, and was thoroughly confused when people started congratulating Kevin Federline. "My dad said, 'Why is everyone congratulating Kevin?' I said, 'Daddy, did you read the invitation?' He said yup. I said, 'You might want to read it again," rate the music quoted Britney's brother Bryan, as saying. "He went into shock: 'Oh my God, I don't have my tuxedo," added Jamie's wife Lynne. The 'Toxic' star, however, was not to be outdone, as she had all 27 wedding guests' fitted outfits for her planned October 16 nuptials delivered to the home of her wedding planner and everyone quickly changed into new fineries for the wedding ceremony. Federline, meanwhile, was particularly keen to get the blessings of his father-in-law on his big day. "I was worried, because you want your wife's father to be OK with you. But when I saw him, it was great," he said.

Despite her first singing role in seven years, in Princess Diaries 2 , receiving a rapturous welcome in Hollywood, the singer has dismissed all hopes of making a comeback. For her role in Princess Diaries 2, Dame Julie said that all she did was "sing-speaking" for the part. "I try the smallest, smallest moment of a song, but I kind of sing speak as much as Rex Harrison used to do (in My Fair Lady). I don't want people to think I'm making a big comeback or anything like that," the singer was quoted by the Daily Mail, as saying. "It's about the same unfortunately and I'm not really going to be singing again, I don't think, sadly," she added. Earlier the singer was reportedly hopeful that a pioneering operation, currently being tested on cancer patients, would eventually restore her vocal chords , but now she has revealed on an interview to ITV1's Parkinson Show, that by the time such a technique is developed, it will be too late for her.

New York: Revealing the secrets of the American president George Bush's shady past, has spelt big business for one Miss Kitty Kelley, whose book 'The Family,' has made it to the number one slot in the New York Times's best-seller list. The book, which exposes Bush as a lazy and womanising youngster, narrates several incidents from the time that Bush was hooked on dope and drinking and often got into trouble with the police, but got away with a lot of things because of his political connections. Kelley's book, which also writes about the rest of the Bush family has already sold 722,500 copies. This year's best-seller list, which will be announced early next month, indicates that with the oncoming elections in America, peoples reading tastes have also become more politically inclined, as 9 of the 15 non-fiction books deal with current issues. Seymour Hersh's "Chain of Command," about the abuse of Iraqi prisoners in Abu Ghraib, and Bill Clinton's 'My Life' also feature in the list.
