Britney's wedding is over (Go To Top)

        London: Britney, who ended months of speculation about where and how she will get married, finally went ahead and tied the knot in a simple, secret ceremony at a friend's house, clad in a white tracksuit with 'Mrs Federline' written at the back. According to the Sun, the 22-year old singer wore a white strapless gown for the wedding, but she later replaced it with a white tracksuit as she and her dancer beau, Kevin Federline, exchanged wedding vows. While Ferderline and his friends also wore white tracksuits with 'The Pimp' written at the back, the 'Toxic' singer's mother and sister, who was also the maid of honour, wore pink tracksuits with the 'The Maids' written on them and Federline's dad's tracksuit read 'Pimp Daddy.' The wedding menu comprised of chicken wings and hamburgers and later the newly wed couple celebrated with their friends at a Los Angeles nightclub. However, the wedding guests were left complaining because they had to pay for their drinks. Britney reportedly got a lot of lingerie as her wedding gifts after she had earlier said that she would want to be gifted sexy underwear at her wedding. "We can confirm the rumours are true. The happy couple married on Saturday," the report quoted Britney's spokesperson as saying. "Britney decided to stick to family guests. Her sister was her bridesmaid, and Kevin's brother was his best man. It was a cute ceremony," added a wedding guest.

'Sky Captain' goes sky high at box office (Go To Top)

        Washington: 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow' topped the box office with estimated earnings of 16.2 million dollars last week. According to estimates released by Exhibitor Relations, the Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie starrer earned the top spot, while Bernie Mac's comedy "Mr. 3000" came in second place followed by last week's winner "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" in the third spot.          Sydney: Her alleged romance with Russell Crowe seems to have given Nicole Kidman a new passion, boxing, with her being spotted at a number of bouts lately. According to The Daily Telegraph, Kidman , along with Russell Crowe was first spotted cheering at a bout between Anthony Mundine and Japanese opponent Yoshinori Nishizawa in Wollongong back in February, and was amongst the spectators again this weekend, where former champion Oscar De La Hoya's lost to Bernard Hopkins at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Dannii Minogue to make her film debut in psychological thriller (Go To Top)

         London: Singer Dannii Minogue is all set to make her big screen debut in a psychological thriller. Pop diva Kylie Minogue's younger sister will play the lead role in the as-yet-untitled movie, created and distributed by the team behind the super successful film, 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. The golden offer has come to Dannii after she landed a four-album deal and a huge contract as one of the celebrity faces of Mercedes. "The film has such a brilliant script and it looks like it's definitely going ahead, just as I start promoting my new album at the start of next year. I can't wait," The Mirror quoted Dannii as saying. "It's not just a cameo part - Dannii's going to be getting her teeth into a substantial role," revealed a movie insider. "She is quite apprehensive as she will be working with some of the most respected people in the industry but she has done a lot of TV work and they're convinced she has the talent and looks to carry off the part," added the source," added the insider.

Halle Berry pours her heart out to an agony aunt (Go To Top)

        London: Hollywood stars who seem to have the world at their feet have problems too. Oscar winning actress Halle Berry reportedly gave vent to her woes in the agony aunt column of a newspaper, in which she wrote about her failed marriages. According to The Sunday Express, the star appealed to the 'Los Angeles Sentinel' columnist Deanna Micaud that her letter, in which she also asked for career advice following failure of 'Catwoman' at the box office, be published with her name in the paper. Of her movie miss, the actress reportedly wrote, "This thing with Catwoman is really affecting me but I've put up a brave front to get past it." Michaud, whose column is a hit among African-American women in Los Angeles, admits that in the beginning she was skeptical about the authenticity of the letter even though the writer insisted, "Yes, I'm really Halle Berry, and this is not a hoax." "I'm satisfied that this is an authentic letter from Halle Berry. She told me something in her letter which is so very personal only she would know it," the columnist was quoted as saying. I've been able to verify that the very sensitive, confidential information she included, which will not be published, was indeed, penned by her," she added.

Madonna says Israel is as safe as New York (Go To Top)

        London: Madonna has waved off any possible security threats to her during her Israel visit, by saying that being in Israel was no riskier than being in NY. "It is no more dangerous to be here than it is to be in New York," she was quoted by The Sun as saying. Despite facing protests from the Jews as well as the Palestinians, Madonna and hubby Guy Ritchie reportedly made a midnight pilgrimage to the grave of the Kabbalist sage Rabbi Yehuda Ashlag. Madge, who is in Israel along with 2000 other Kabbalahists to mark the beginning of the Jewish New Year, also paid a visit to the Wailing Wall, a part of Judaism's holiest site where the biblical temples once stood. She touted her Five-day visit to Israel as a medium to create peace. She added that she and all the others who had come had "one thing in common - we want to create peace."

         London: Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Prince Harry is all geared up to join the Welsh Guards and will reportedly start officer training at Sandhurst. According to The Daily Mail, the prince has already met the unit's commanding officer in London to have an idea of his duties and responsibilities. As a cadet, Harry will be required to learn the Welsh language as well as the history of The Welsh Guards. According to the report the Prince will serve in their elite Prince of Wales Company and his uniform could cost as much as 30,000 pounds, as the red tunic is decorated with gold braid. "It is premature to talk about Prince Harry choosing a regiment because he has yet to take his RCB (Royal Commission Board) exams so any reports about regiments at this stage are pure speculation," a spokesperson for the prince was quoted as saying.

JK Rowling reveals 'real facts' behind 'hurtful gossip' (Go To Top)

         London: In an attempt to quash rumours about her private life, JK Rowling has come up with a new section on her official website, in which she claims that fans can find out "real facts" of her life behind "hurtful" gossip. According to The Mirror, the author denies that her doctor husband Neil Murray has quit work. "This is one of those stories that makes me angry because they hurt my family. "So, and hopefully for the last time, Neil has never given up work and continues to practise as a doctor in Edinburgh," she writes in the new section. Rowling has also rubbished rumours that the character of Gilderoy Lockhart, who teaches Defence of the Dark Arts at Hogwarts Academy in the Harry Potter books, is based on her ex-husband Jorge Arantes. She says, "Lockhart was inspired by a real man. I won't identify him but I can state categorically I never married him." "This is a great place to tell the truth about some of the more fiction-than-fact-articles," she adds.

The taxman chases James Bond away from Britain (Go To Top)

          London: A change in British tax laws that could make shooting films in Britain dearer, could see the country losing it's favorite fictional hero, as the makers of the James Bond series are reportedly looking to ditch the Pinewood Studios where all the Bond films have been made, and shift to studios in America or other European countries. According to the Daily Mail, the tax reform would take away an important tax concession, which allowed film investors to receive an immediate rebate of twice their initial stake, and they had to pay tax only if the movie was a success. The new law could see filmmakers spending a third of budgets in taxes. The concession was the reason a number of films like 'Gosford Park' and 'Bend It Like Beckham' were able to get completed on a low budget.

`Angels in America' shine for HBO at the Emmy's (Go To Top)

         London: HBO miniseries 'Angels in America' clearly stole the limelight at last night's Emmy Awards by winning a record seven awards out of the total sixteen that the cable channel won. According to The BBC, 'Angels in America' won the award for the best miniseries with Al Pacino winning the best actor for his role in the series in which he plays a man dying of Aids. HBO also won best drama for its mobster series, The Sopranos with Sarah Jessica Parker picking up the best comedy actress for HBO's Sex And The City.

Sven Goran Eriksson to wed his 'cheated-on' fiancee (Go To Top)

         London: It seems that the English soccer coach Seven Goran Eriksson's fiancee Nancy Dell'Olio, has forgiven him for cheating on her with the sexy FA secretary Faria Alam, with the couple reportedly ready to tie the knot. According to Newsoftheworld, the couple are together again and Nancy has reportedly made Eriksson promise to mend his ways. "There's been talk about slipping away to marry quietly but they also know that will quickly become public knowledge. Of course we all expect Nancy to want a ceremony with all the bells and whistles," a close friend of the couple was quoted as saying. "She's not going to miss the chance of her biggest day, in her most glorious gown, thumbing her nose at all her rivals and saying, 'You may have wanted him but I'm the one he comes home to," he added.

          Melbourne: Marilyn Monroe's ex husband, American playwright Arthur Miller, has come up with an autobiographical play, in which he portrays his tumultuous marriage to the iconic beauty. According to The Australian, the play 'Finishing The Picture', a fictional portrait of Monroe's emotional disintegration, is based on the period in which she was shooting for ' The Misfits', for which Miller wrote the screenplay. Actor Matthew Modine stars as a young writer who is powerless to stop the disturbed star's descent into depression and drug addiction. "She is having difficulty getting out of bed and going to work because she is having a nervous breakdown on the scale of Hamlet," Modine was quoted as saying in an interview. "It is about the tremendous pressure of being one of the most iconic characters of the 20th Century. "We all expect her to wake up bright and fluffy even though she is dying," he added.

         London: If you are going to London and can't speak English properly, you can now take heart from the fact that in the near future, you could actually converse with the London police in Punjabi or Bengali, after British authorities have passed a new law which will actually give preference to hiring ethnically diverse police officers. According to the Minister in charge of Policing, Hazel Blears, the new law has been passed to enable the British police force to reflect the of ethnic breakdown of London's population and also because policing would be much more effective, if people were checked in their own language, reports the Independent. The new law, which ensures that the British police will recruit foreign speaking candidates before they hire only English speaking ones, also hopes to give an elixir to the race relations within minority communities as well as increase the number of non-white officers in the force. With the move, which will probably include specifying that candidates applying for the police should know certain languages, the officials are also hoping to win some public support for the cops. "I am thinking about genuine occupational qualifications where you can stipulate you need people with particular backgrounds," the report quoted Blears as saying. "I met some police officers who were policing the Cypriot community in London and they were desperate for people who could speak the language. And they found when they got those officers the engagement with these communities was tremendous which then reflected in their ability to fight crime," she added.

          London: Veteran actress Sigourney Weaver, who heralded the genre of action heroines with her alien hunting character in the 1979 blockbuster 'Aliens,' has expressed her disappointment over the action heroines of today, saying that they don't seem to realise that it takes more than big breasts, hot pants and a gun to be an action heroine. According to Spiegel magazine, the 55-year old actress, who revealed that although there is another Alien movie in the pipeline, she would not be featuring in it, added that she was not very impressed by characters like Lara Croft. "I'm not sure I'd say Angelina Jolie was brilliant in the way they used her in Lara Croft, Angelina is a great actress, but her role is limited to fighting evil with weapons," the report quoted her as saying. "I think it's quite a pity that an actress as good as Angelina Jolie isn't given more room to portray the character of Lara Croft with a touch more intelligence. They limited her to the video game character too much," she added.

         Washington: Hollywood beauty Cameron Diaz has revealed that though her friends always told her that she would never be able to make it big in Hollywood unless she got a nose job, but her refusal to get it corrected actually helped her get film roles instead of losing them. "I thought it kind of gave me a different look to all the other surgery-type girls and, who knows, it may have helped land me some roles too," Bang Showbiz quoted her as saying.

Britney Spears to produce satanic heir to the 'Chucky' throne (Go To Top)

          New York: The evil doll of the successful horror movie series 'Chucky' in the latest horror flick titled 'Seed of Chucky', will have sex with a Britney Spears look-alike doll, producing the satanic heir to the Chucky throne. Britney, meanwhile, is reportedly upset that Rogue Pictures used her hit song 'Baby One More Time' in an inappropriate manner in the new Chucky film, according to the New York Post. Desist letters have therefore been sent to Rouge Pictures, and the song has been taken out from the film. The horror movie, however, is now being marketed as "the movie Britney doesn't want you to see."
