Britney's 'chewed' chewing gum helps fight unemployment

Sydney: Fans of pop star Britney Spears have found a weird way of making money. They are reportedly following the singer and the chewing gum that she spits out and hope to put it up on eBay for sale. A Britney fan, who has named himself xokissezxoxox, managed to get his hands on Britney's chewing gum and is now hopeful of getting 700 dollars for it, but the top bid has only reached 15 dollars till now. "She had the pack of Juicy Fruit in her hand, and she stopped to answer her phone. She put the pack down on top of the trash can and spat the gum she had in her mouth out," The Herald Sun quoted xokissezxoxox as saying. Another seller claiming to have the gum that started it all, wants 650 dollars, but the best bid is less than a dollar. "This gum has come straight from Britney's mouth as she spat it out in anger at the press outside her LA home in early August," he said. Britney had also left her chewing gum at an Australian restaurant, which is now up for sale for 180 dollars. However, the most hopeful of all is a seller who has put a 7000 dollars price tag on a bit of Britney's gum from the night she kissed Madonna on stage.

Reese Witherspoon, Mira Nair defend 'Vanity Fair's' Indian touch (Go To Top)

London: Director Mira Nair's highly anticipated movie 'Vanity Fair' has been slammed by critics as being 'too Indian' and 'jarring,' after it was screened at the Venice Film Festival recently. But Nair remained unfazed as she described the Indian touch of the film as a 'wink to William Thackeray,' explaining that Thackeray would have been happy with the film because he was born in India. While the 'Monsoon Wedding' director, Nair described her film as 'ripe juicy mango,' Reese Witherspoon who plays the role of Thackeray's protagonist Becky Sharp in the movie, explained that the Bollywood touch had been given because they wanted to do something different and add a modern touch. Critics said that the film's ending, which shows Sharp running away to India to make a fresh start, turned out to be a damp squib. "Nair's film doesn't so much end as fall off a cliff," wrote a noted critic. But Witherspoon said that this had been done because they didn't want to make a movie like all the rest and wanted to do something new, while Nair said that the Indian angle was like a 'golden thread running through the movie.' "If there's anyone who can understand class better than the British, it's probably an Indian person, Becky is full of the vigour, life and mischief to go on for another adventure. Having her go to India is just a wink to Thackeray," BBC quoted Nair, as saying. "We didn't want bonnets. We didn't want to make another movie like every other one you've seen," added Witherspoon.

'War of the Worlds' could make Tom Cruise the richest actor ever (Go To Top)

London: Hollywood actor Tom Cruise could become the highest earning actor in history if the Steven Spielberg directed movie, 'The War of The Worlds,' in which he stars in the lead role, becomes a massive crowd puller. According to Female First, instead of charging a set amount for the movie, Cruise has asked Spielberg for 10 percent of whatever the movie earns, plus ten percent from the merchandise sales. Critics are estimating that the movie, based on the 1898 H G Wells novel by the same name, would earn atleast 1 billion pounds, out of which Cruise will be entitled to 100 million pounds. He would also be able to earn approximately 50 million pounds from each of the sequels as the movie is to be made in three parts. His total earnings could double his current fortune, which stands at 200 million pounds. 'War of the Worlds,' tells the story of a Martian invasion, which goes wrong when the aliens catch common cold. In 1938, the film had caused a panic attack amongst Britons when a narrator read out the script on radio and people thought aliens had actually arrived.
