London:
Sir Elton John has revealed that he underwent surgery
in 1987 to actually save his voice after it was affected
by his excessive marijuana smoking. The pop superstar began
to smoke dope during his stay in Australia in the 1980s
after his brief marriage to Renate Blauel. "I could speak,
and only barely sing. Deep down, I knew that there was something
chronically wrong with my voice," he was quoted as saying
in an interview with Canadian television. "The first thing
the doctor said to me was: 'You smoke a lot of dope, don't
you?' I gasped and said: 'How do you know that?' And the
doctor said: 'I can tell by the way you're talking. If you're
a singer, the worst thing you can do is smoke dope.'," he
added. "We did the operation in Australia and it lowered
the timbre of my voice. It's deeper, has more resonance
and it's stronger.I used to be a piano player who sang and
now I'm a singer who plays piano," he said.

Man
may live till 150, claims study (Go
To Top)
London:
A new study by Steve Austad of the University Of Texas
Health Science Center claims that people are going to start
living till the age of 150 and some of the children alive
today will still be alive in 2150, because future evolutionary
changes are going to make aging slower and slower. According
to Austad it has been noticed that more and more people
are living to see their 90th or 100th birthdays than ever
before and he says that this is not only because of better
medical facilities as people in remote parts of the world
where medicines are not available have also started living
longer. Meanwhile another study by Jim Carey, a biodemographer
from the University of California at Davis, suggests that
people will live longer because of people's ability to specialise
and act together. He based his study on the fact that left
by themselves, people's brain sizes would let them live
for only 30-40 years. But because brain size and sociality
are also related i.e. sociality increases brain size, people
are able to live much longer. "We are left with the idea
of explaining why we humans live much longer than we should
for our body size. One reasonable guess about why that may
be true is that we live in these complex groups that provide
us some protection that we wouldn't have if we were out
there on our own," BBC quoted Dr Austad as saying.

they officially split up, they were more like best friends
than anything else, and even though both have found themselves
new partners, the strong bond is still there. Hugh is a
big fan of Arun. He was a little sceptical at first, but
now they get on really well. Obviously, he has always vetted
Liz's boyfriends closely, because they are more like brother
and sister than anything else now," Hurley's pal added.

London:
Screen diva Demi Moore and pop star Madonna reportedly
hosted a 40,000 pound Kabbalah party in honour of Kabbalah
guru Rabbi Michael Berg at Home House club in London. Demi
and Madonna, who are both devout followers of Kabbalah,
co hosted the bash for twin reasons, the first being getting
publicity for Berg's new book 'Becoming Like God: Kabbalah
and our Ultimate Destiny', and secondly for thanking the
Rabbi for improving their lives. "Rabbi Berg is the founding
father of their religion and they both credit him with turning
their lives around," the Mirror quoted a source as saying.
"Demi and Madonna are the two most A-list followers of the
faith and knew that holding the party would get a lot of
publicity for Michael's book," the source added. Insiders
have claimed that the venue itself might have cost 10, 000
pounds, and the celebrity pair had shipped in specially-
blessed Kabbalah water and paid for an unlimited bar and
macrobiotic canapis for their 50 guests, which included
Madonna's director hubby, Guy Ritchie, actress Gwyneth Paltrow
and designer Donatella Versace. Berg's book, which claims
all people are inhabitants of a prison called life, has
already become a best seller in America. "Rabbi Berg must
be really pleased. He's treated like an A-list star by two
of the most famous women in the world," revealed the source.
