Man may live till 150, claims study (Go To Top)

London: A new study by Steve Austad of the University Of Texas Health Science Center claims that people are going to start living till the age of 150 and some of the children alive today will still be alive in 2150, because future evolutionary changes are going to make aging slower and slower. According to Austad it has been noticed that more and more people are living to see their 90th or 100th birthdays than ever before and he says that this is not only because of better medical facilities as people in remote parts of the world where medicines are not available have also started living longer. Meanwhile another study by Jim Carey, a biodemographer from the University of California at Davis, suggests that people will live longer because of people's ability to specialise and act together. He based his study on the fact that left by themselves, people's brain sizes would let them live for only 30-40 years. But because brain size and sociality are also related i.e. sociality increases brain size, people are able to live much longer. "We are left with the idea of explaining why we humans live much longer than we should for our body size. One reasonable guess about why that may be true is that we live in these complex groups that provide us some protection that we wouldn't have if we were out there on our own," BBC quoted Dr Austad as saying.
