Harry Potter's love life depends on the punters (Go To Top)

London: Harry Potter's love being killed in the the sixth book has prompted thousands of the wizard's fans into wagering a bet on the matter. Thousands of dollars are at stake on the life of Cho Chang, whom Harry Potter author J K Rowling plans to eliminate in the sixth book titled Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince. According to The Sun, internet firm Blue Square has reported a flood of bets on Harry's love interest on Wednesday night. "It's very odd. Even the betting pattern has been a bit mysterious.A lot of people have opened accounts in the middle of the night and placed their first-ever bets on Cho Chang being killed off. This suggests they at least think they know something," Blue Square spokesman Ed Pownall was quoted as saying. "The maximum punt for this kind of bet is #100 and we've had a few of them as well as several of 50 pounds. This has forced us to cut the odds on Cho by more than half from 8-1 to 3-1. But much more money for young Cho and it looks like she could be hanging up her wand forever," he added. However, a spokesman for Rowling who had revealed her death plot in a website chat , has called the Cho rumours "pure speculation". "Only JK knows what's in the book she is currently writing.Until it's finished and edited, no one can be sure what happens," he said.

Swearing makes men impotent, turns women into men (Go To Top)

London: By Jove! Swearing can make men impotent and have women develop male characteristics, including facial hair and extra muscles, reveals a new research conducted by Russian scientist Gennady Cheurin and his team at the Centre for Ecological Safety and Survival in Yekaterinburg. The research was based on the popular belief that water has a type of "memory" that can be influenced by positive and negative forces. The researchers reportedly had sworn at a glass of water for several hours and then poured it over wheat seeds. They found that only 48 per cent of those seeds which were watered with the "foul" water sprouted as opposed to 93 per cent of seeds watered with holy water taken from natural springs. They thus concluded that the same effect of the negative forces arising due to heavy swearing and use of bad language can result in sexual dysfunctions in men and male characteristics in women. "We then looked at heavy swearers and others who never used bad language, and found whenever men use these words in their daily life, this immediately leads to sexual dysfunctions, i.e. impotence. If a woman uses these words in her daily speech, she slowly begins transforming into a man, getting more hair and muscles,"Cheuring said.
