London:
Mao Tse-tung's Little Red Book might have helped launch
the Cultural Revolution in China and inspired radical Communists
worldwide, but now it seems people have lost interest in
him. According to The Telegraph, a first edition of the
book, published in 1964, failed to reach its reserve price
at a Bonhams auction in London. It contains Mao's sayings
on 33 subjects and was intended for use by members of China's
People's Liberation Army. Specialists at Bonhams had expected
the book to fetch 2,500 to 3,000 pounds. "Unfortunately,
it didn't sell, as bidding didn't reach its reserve price,"
a spokesman was quoted as saying.
Cats
and dogs are becoming obese (Go

London:
A survey conducted by pet insurer 'More Than' has revealed
that obesity is on the rise in pet animals. According to
the Daily Mail, the increase in the numbers of obese pets
is being blamed mainly on overfeeding, lack of exercise
and poor diet, same reasons that are responsible for obesity
in humans. The study found that almost 80 per cent of vets
are seeing increasing numbers of obese pets, yet 90 per
cent of owners fail to recognise the fact that their pets
are overweight. The researchers also found that three-fifths
of vets are reporting a growing number of 'human type' of
illnesses and disorders such as diabetes and arthritis in
domesticated animals like cats and dogs. "Pining by a cat
or dog is often read as a sign of hunger, and hence owners
feed them, rather than recognising that it is more often
than not a call for attention," the report quoted Sophie
de Pelet, veterinary Advisor for 'More Than' as saying.
"Pets begin to log these traits and play up to their owners,
and as a result, without even realising it, owners could
be increasing the risks of obesity and related illness such
as diabetes, arthritis and high blood pressure," added Pelet.

London:
German man Karl Friedrich Lentze has claimed that he
has invented a device that can straighten bananas. The 56-year
old Lentze from Berlin, who has applied for a patent for
the method he calls cigar banana, said that he has received
endless calls from people who are keen to use the novel
method. Lentze's patent application includes sketches showing
how bananas will be carried along on a conveyor belt while
robots chop out the curvy bits. "This is the biggest thing
since sliced bread - the straight banana. Depending on the
degree of the curve, chunks will be cut out of the banana,
which are then resealed using a biologically safe plaster,"
Bild newspaper quoted Lentze as saying. "Once people get
used to them I believe the straight cigar-banana will drive
the curved banana from the market. It's easier to eat, and
easier to store," he added.

Mozart
had a filthy and profane mind, says music composer (Go

London:
The next time you listen to a soul stirring Mozart symphony,
don't be surprised if someone tells you that it actually
had some extremely profane lyrics to accompany it, as a
new documentary has revealed that the 18th century composer
suffered from a brain condition called 'Tourette's Syndrome,'
whose sufferers cannot stop themselves from blurting out
profanities. The documentary, which is to be aired on Channel
4 reveals that the composer wrote a song called 'L*** Out
My A*******,' at the age of 26, which included the shocking
lyrics "L*** out my a*******, L*** it till it's good and
clean," reports the Sun. British composer James McConnel
says that the legendary composer had the syndrome until
his death in 1792. "There's a very rare condition in Tourette's
called coprographia, the need to write down filth. We Touretters
have filthy minds," the report quoted him as saying.
