Richard Gere caught in political controversy in Taiwan (Go To Top)

London: Hollywood star and social-cum-political activist Richard Gere is embroiled in a political row in Taiwan after he was invited to attend a film festival on the island ahead of the parliamentary elections. The "Pretty Woman" star has been asked by the ruling Taiwanese Democratic Progressive Party to be guest of honour at the Golden Horse Movie Festival in December, but opposition parties have criticised Gere's invite, saying it will give the government an unfair opportunity to boost their profile. "It is not proper for Gere to come in December as the parliamentary election approaches. The government (could) use Gere to boost their profile in the campaigning as he has a lot of fans here," femalefirst quoted Hung Hsiu-Chu, a member of the leading opposition party Kuo-Min-Tang, as saying. Further fuel to the fire was added by Gere who told Taiwan's TVBS network recently that he refuses to accept opposition claims that the assassination attempt on president Chen Shui-Bian was just a "ploy" to create a sympathy wave in the country before the elections. "What I thought was kind of bizarre was that the opposition assumed that he had set it up, in some way had himself shot. That doesn't sound right," said Gere.

According to Zap2it.com, writer-cum-director Sam Raimi revealed that the villain will be decided only after he figures out how the plot of the new movie will shape up. "I'm not supposed to tell you, and in fact, I can't tell you because I'm still figuring that out," Raimi was quoted as saying. Arnie enrolled in sexual harassment classes on assuming office (Go To Top)

London: Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed that after assuming charge of his office, one of the first things that he did was enroll himself and his entire staff in sexual harassment classes. The Hollywood actor-turned-politician said that he took this decision in the wake of the sexual harassment charges levelled against him during his election campaign for the post. Schwarzenegger, who had then waves aside the allegations as harmless fun, added that he had also taken the classes because he was not used to the strict Californian laws on sexual harassment, reports the Daily Mirror. "I've learned my lesson, I think that now that I am not representing myself but representing the state of California, it is a totally different ball game. When I took office, the first thing we did was to take classes and have experts come in to talk about sexual harassment because the laws are so strict now," the report quoted him as saying. "It has changed so much that any kind of a comment you make to a woman now about her clothes or about this or that could be misinterpreted and could make someone uncomfortable and open the door to a lawsuit," he added.

Beckham's first girlfriend reveals his kissing talents (Go To Top)

London: England soccer captain David Beckham's first girlfriend Clarie Pankhurst has revealed that the Real Madrid star was a very good kisser when they were involved with each other as teenagers and that she wasn't too enthused about the tattoos on his body now. Claire, 28, recalled how Beckham had asked her out for a date in 1991 when he was 16 and she was 15 at the Chingford School in Essex. "I still can't believe my boyfriend from school has grown into such a megastar. It was just kids' stuff really. We would go to the park and kiss and cuddle. I did like him though," the Daily Mirror quoted Claire as saying. "We never went any further than kissing in the park. Although I can confirm he is a very good kisser," she added. Claire, who is now engaged to Richard, however, said that she would not really fancy Becks now because of his "zillion tattoos". "The one on the back of his neck is awful. It makes him look different from the boy I went out with. I think he's taken the hip-hop look too far now," added Claire.

London: Film actress Renee Zellweger has still not gotten over the death of her pet dog Dylan, even 11 months after her death, and is still mourning her beloved pooch's loss. The 'Bridget Jones Diary' star was devastated when the 15-year- old Dylan passed away last November, and is shocked at people's suggestions that she should get a new dog as a replacement. "Give it a year and another year and you don't cry every day. I feel like I've been a mum for 15 years. I have had my dog for 15 years and my life revolved around her," femalefirst quoted Renee as saying. "I could never replace Dylan. That would be like, 'I'm sorry your daughter died. Do you have a new one?' That's just the nature of the relationship. I'm not saying that everybody is so lucky, but I was that lucky to have that kind of dog and that kind of relationship with her," she added.

Diarrhoea can't stop Diddy from performing (Go To Top)

Washington: Rap star Sean P Diddy Combs has revealed that he has learnt to perform in pain, after he was struck with diarrhoea in the middle of a performance of his Broadway show 'A Raisin In The Sun'. Diddy got rave reviews and drew huge crowds when he appeared in the New York production, but had to fight off the most troublesome call of nature as he performed live. "It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, but it was the most rewarding thing. "And to not have any takes - you can't take no time outs. One time... I actually got diarrhoea as I was on stage. Believe me, there are no takes," he added.
