A film festival to showcase Bollywood movies in Moscow  (Go To Top)

        Moscow: A four-day Indian film festival began here with the screening of the Bollywood blockbuster "Kabhi Khushi, Kabhi Gam" here. Despite the fact that all the films are in Hindi, a large number of enthusiastic young spectators are coming to attend the festival. "I am surprised to see so many young faces in the hall, I thought, I would see mostly your mothers and grandmothers here," said Indian ambassador to Russia Kanwal Sibal. "Love for the Indian films and Bollywood is still alive in Russia and the new generation of Russians is also carrying forward the tradition in spite of Hollywood movies flooding screens in the country," noted Russian film critic Kirill Razlogov said. The festival would screen a number of hit Indian movies, including Raj Kapoor's 'Bobby', Shekhar Kapur's 'Masoom', Mani Ratnam's 'Roja', Karan Johar's 'Kal Ho Na Ho' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'.

        New York: Pop dive Britney Spears has sacked her long time manager Larry Rudolph for reportedly not agreeing with her marriage to Kevin Federline. According to The New York Daily News, the singer has announced that she would not be renewing her contract with Larry, when it runs out at the end of this month. "Britney and I simply realised that we have done all we can do together and have amicably parted ways after eight years," Rudolph told the paper through his rep. According to the paper, Britney was reportedly unhappy with Larry for persuading her to get her wedding with Jason Alexander annulled and being against her wedding with Kevin Federline. Larry reportedly aslo forced her to ink a pre-nuptial agreement with Larry. Britney and Larry reportedly had nasty showdowns over Kevin's arrival during her world tour this year. "Larry forced Britney to get the annulment from [first husband] Jason Alexander. And he forced her to sign a prenup with Kevin Federline. Bryan Spears, Britney's older brother, was always trying to push Larry out of the picture. Bryan has the managing bug," a source was quoted by the paper as saying. "They parted ways amicably, and Britney wishes him the best. Bryan has nothing to do with it. Larry had nothing to do with the prenup,"the paper quoted Britney's spokeswoman as saying.

        London: Pop diva Britney Spears has found a novel way to deal with pestering photographers. She simply throws her coke at them and shows them her middle finger. That's exactly what she did when she came out of a fast food joint with her husband, Kevin Federline and found snappers surrounding her. The 'Toxic' singer, reportedly wet the snapper's entire camera kit as she chucked her coke at him, pulled out her finger and ran laughing into her car. Federline seemed to support her actions while saying 'That's what happens if you get too close," reports The Sun.

Richard Gere inspires Jennifer Lopez to embrace Buddhism (Go To Top)

       London: Celebrities seem to have a strange fascination for Asian religions, and if it was George Harrison becoming a disciple of the Hindu guru Mahararishi Mahesh Yogi and Madonna practicing the Jewish religion kabalah, this time it is Latino diva Jennifer Lopez who is taking up Buddhism. The 'Wedding Planner' actress was reportedly so impressed by her co-star Richard Gere's dedication to Buddhism, that she was inspired to embrace the religion after she had a number of spiritual talks with him, reports the Sun. Lopez, who is acting with Gere in the movie 'Shall We Dance' says that she is now aware of a higher energy, and the fact that it is very important to be a good human being. "Now I know there's a force in the world. There's an energy that if you put out good and you put out love it comes back to you. That's a basic thing that works for me," the report quoted her as saying.

Will J K Rowling kill off Harry Potter? (Go To Top)

        London: British author J K Rowling has revealed that she might kill of one of the best loved fictional characters of all time in her next book, the boy wizard Harry Potter, who she created in her first book 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.' She let out the information on her website, when a fan asked her if she was going to kill off any more characters. She said that she was definitely going to kill one character in her next book 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,' and it could even be Potter himself, reports the Sun. Rowling, however clarified that it could be anyone of the other characters like the lovable half-human Hagrid, Harry's friends Ron and Hermoine or Harry's principal, the master wizard Dumbledor, who could kick the bucket. Rowling had earlier admitted that she would be introducing a new character in the book, which is the sixth in the series.

Johnny Depp to play Mumbai quack in 'Shantaram' (Go To Top)

        Washington: Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has reportedly signed on to play the lead role in a new movie, 'Shantaram,' in which he will portray a drug addict who escapes from an Australian prison to establish himself as a fake doctor in the slums of Mumbai. The movie, which is based on the real life story of Gregory David Roberts, who penned down his adventures in a book by the same name, is being touted as one of the biggest Hollywood deals of the year, and Warner Bros reportedly paid Roberts two million dollars for the film role, repots the Daily variety. Depp, who has earlier received critical acclaim for playing drug addict in the movie 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,' was the film makers second choice after Oscar Winner Russell Crowe. The movie will also star the 'Fight Club' actress Helena Bonham Carter and 'Harry Potter' actress Emily Watson.

Charlize Theron wants to marry Ozzy Osbourne (Go To Top)

        London: Sharon Osbourne had better watch out, as Oscar winner Charlize Theron has revealed that she has a huge crush on Sharon's husband, rocker Ozzy Osbourne, and would love to marry him. The 'Monster' actress said that she likes Ozzy because she has a fetish for older men. She also said that she had sworn that she will never get married after she witnessed her mother shooting her father, but now her current boyfriend, actor Stuart Townsend has persuaded her that marriage is a good thing. "I have this thing about wanting to marry him. I like those older guys. I have this weird nurturing sense," Female First quoted her as saying.

Cell phone inventor was refused loan (Go To Top)

         London: Here is another story of great inventors not giving up in the face of adversity, John Edwards, the man who created the mobile phone in the 1960's, was refused a start up loan for the gadget, because the bank manager thought that the technology would 'never catch on.' Edwards, who was an electronics engineer, revealed that he had applied for a loan of 150,000 pounds at the Midland Bank in Southport, Merseyside but his application was shot down, because according to the manager, the idea was absolute 'nonsense' and people would never like to carry a 'phone in their pockets,' reports The Sun. Edwards then borrowed the money from another bank and created the hefty Ready Call device, which was the world's first cell phone. However the father of the cell phone also admitted that shockingly enough, he does not know how to send SMS's and has to be aided by his grandchildren when he wants to send a message.

Hugh Grant hates his 17 homes (Go To Top)

         London: Hollywood star Hugh Grant has revealed that he owns 17 houses and hates all of them. The 'Notting Hill' actor also said that he is somewhat like a real estate tycoon because when he gets bored with one house, he buys another. "I have gone mad with real estate," femalefirst quoted Hugh as saying. "I now own about 17 houses in London, all of them horrible and all of them very badly decorated. I seem to have no talent for it whatsoever," he added.
