London:
Nicole Kidman might have worked tirelessly for her new film
Bewitched, but she has now decided to take a break in Australia
with her children. "Before Bewitched started filming, I
just said no, that I couldn't begin it any earlier. I took
two months off and went back to Australia, where I surfed.
I cooked. I have a beach house. I had my kids, my mom and
dad, and I put a message on my phone: 'Please don't try
to call me. Don't leave a message. I won't call you back.'
I think this made some people angry, but I really don't
care," Femalefirst quoted her as saying.

Huge
craters confirm meteorite impact on Earth (Go
To Top)
London: Huge craters discovered in the Sahara desert
have confirmed that Earth suffered from simultaneous meteor
impacts in the recent past. According to Newscientist, the
largest field of impact craters ever uncovered on Earth
had gone unnoticed until now because it is partially buried
beneath the sands of the Sahara desert in south-west Egypt.
Philippe Paillou of Bordeaux University Observatory in Floirac,
France, first noticed circular geological structures in
the Sahara last year, while analysing radar satellite pictures
of the area. The structures turned out to be part of a huge
field of 100 craters spread over 5000 square kilometres
near the Gilf Kebir plateau. The craters vary in diameter
from 20 metres to 2 kilometres across. The previous largest
known crater field covers a mere 60 square kilometres in
Argentina. In February, Paillou led a joint Egyptian and
French mission to find the site and examined 13 of the craters,
confirming that they were the result of simultaneous impacts.
But accurately dating the field has been tricky. Paillou
estimates that it is roughly 50 million years old, relatively
young in geological terms. The size of the field suggests
that it could be the result of two or more meteors disintegrating
as they entered Earth's atmosphere, the first evidence of
a multiple strike, he says. "Because the field is so big,
it can't have been made by one meteor," Paillou was quoted
as saying.
'Doom
3' voted the best PC game (Go

London:
If you are wondering what to buy for your young nieces
and nephews this Christmas, the computer game 'Doom 3' might
be a good idea, after having won the ultimate game of the
year and well as the best PC game awards at the annual Golden
Joystick awards. According to BBC, the awards were based
on several polls conducted by video games and computer magazines,
and the prize for the Most Wanted game of 2005, went to
the Nintendo title, 'The Legend of Zelda,' while 'Battlefield
Vietnam' was voted the best online game of the year. The
polls, which revealed that the UK market for computer games
has grown by over 100 percent in the past six years, also
indicted that the sci-fi horror game 'Doom 3' which was
first launched in 1994, was responsible for making video
games popular to a very large extent.
Children
born in 2020 will live till 120 (Go

Sydney:
If biotechnologists have their way, by the year 2020,
cats will glow, crops will grow on vitamin supplements and
people will live upto the age of 120 years. According to
reports presented at a conference in Brisbane, rapid advances
in biotechnology will be able to make several lifestyle
changes available to humans. Much akin to the futuristic
sci-fi hit 'Gattaca' scientist say that by the time the
year 2020 rolls around, one can design their own perfect
babies as it will be possible to study the genetic makeup
of babies even before they are born which can then be changed
according to the parents wishes, reports the Sydney Morning
Herald. Experts from the federal government's Biotechnology
Australia, also said that predicted medicines will be tailored
to your own genetic make-up, you will be able to clone your
own organs if something goes awry, and have the ability
to slow your ageing process. Among other advances in biotechnology,
researchers say that crops will be specifically treated
with vitamins and vaccines to counter health problems such
as diabetes, types of cancers, malnutrition and vitamin
deficiency. They also said that on the more quirky side,
biotechnology will be able to change the colour of animals
by administering simple injections to them which will also
make them glow in the dark. But the researchers are also
warning that it will not be without side effects and people
should not go overboard with experimentation. "Every time
you're tinkering with life to any extent you worry people.
There will always be a side-effect or an impact that we
have to consider ethically. The best way that's done is
through working with the community," the report quoted Craig
Cormick, from the federal government's Biotechnology Australia,
as saying.
