Ghost-busters meet ghosts at British naval base (Go To Top)

          London: Ghost-busters have confirmed that a historic British Royal Navy base is haunted by carrying out two nights of tests inside the dockyard at Devonport, Plymouth. According to the Sun, the naval base is supposed to be haunted by 140 French Prisoners Of War (POWs) executed 200 years ago. Paranormal Research Organisation researchers and the Society of Metaphysicians monitored the two 17th century buildings, the Hangman's Cell and the Master Ropemaker's House. Generations of sailors and other workers too have reported seeing the ghosts of a small girl and a bearded mariner in the 'haunted' buildings. "There was definitely activity in the Hangman's Cell," the report quoted psychic medium, Barbara Jones, as saying. The ghost-busters also felt the presence of an 'energy' and experienced 'a very unpleasant feeling' in the Master Ropemaker's House.

          Washington: Pop star Kelly Osbourne has sold the Hollywood Hills home she never moved into for 1.5 million dollars. According to rate the music, Kelly had renovated the 1920s Spanish-style home after buying it for 1.2 million dollars last year in March. However, Kelly never went to stay in the expensive house and preferred staying back with her family in Beverly Hills.

          Washington: Scientists at UT Southwestern Medical Centre in Dallas, Texas, have discovered ways to cut down a woman's frequent trips to the loo. Controlling the consumption of diet soda, caffeine and other sugar substitutes can help women to overcome this malaise, their study suggests. "Caffeine, carbonation and sugar substitutes can irritate the bladder and make some women feel like they need to urinate or, worse, like they are having trouble holding it," claimed Dr. Mikio Nihira, an assistant professor of urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery at the institution. "Our list of bladder irritants is growing. For many women, reducing their intake of diet soda is very helpful," he added.

          London: Germans may have created a world record of sorts when it comes to insulting others. So far, 164,848 of them have been prosecuted for sign-related offences, gestures that are documented in a catalogue kept by public prosecutors. According to The Sun, they range from something as mild as tapping the forehead to suggest that the person is crazy to the vulgarly raised middle finger. According to the Der Spiegel magazine, the number of annual prosecutions for insulting people has more than doubled since 1990.

          Melbourne: Logging on to porn sites in office could have dire consequences as was recently realised by the CEO of The Bank of Ireland, Mike Soden who was asked to resign because he had access to certain inappropriate websites on his computer. According to The Age, Soden who lost his job worth 2.25 million dollars per annum, not only resigned without any resistance but also apologized for his behaviour. "The content accessed was not illegal but did contain links to material of an adult nature. I now understand and accept that in doing this I breached the policies of the Bank of Ireland," Soden said in a statement.
