Strict parents contribute
to kids behavioural problems: Study (Go
To Top)
Washington:
A new study has found that parents who interact with their
children rather than regulate their children's behaviour are
less likely to have children with drug and alcohol abuse or
behavioural problems. It is often believed that parents can
prevent their children from going astray if they are strict.
Parents often keep a strict watch on their children's activities
and friends. However, the study hopes to debunk these myths,
and says that developing warm and friendly relationships with
children is a much better option for avoiding behavioural
problems. The study also says that parents seldom know the
truth about their children. The researchers studied three
methods usually adopted by parents to keep their child's behavior
in check. The first was parents maintaining close relationships
with children. The second was setting strict limits on children's
activities and friendships and lastly, try to be informed
about their activities and friendships. The first was found
to be the most effective of the three, and then the study
said that if parents are strict with their children, the impact
would only be for the short rather than the long term. The
study called "Parental Influences on Adolescent Problem Behavior"
was published in the third issue of Child Development.

such a forum had not materialised till now. I am very proud,
and I am happy that there are many like me who will like to
help the workers," said Sanjay Dutt. "More than anything,
it is just to collect funds...The easiest way to collect funds
is to get all the actors group together and to have a certain
kind of an event which people enjoy watching, so they watch
the event and pay for it. People watch it on television, and
the money we get from TV rights, we put it in funds for the
people who really deserve," said Anil Kapoor.

London:
The manager of the Royal Hotel in Ventnor, Isle of Wight,
has received a postcard requesting for a room 96 years after
the postcard was dispatched. According to the Mirror, the
postcard with a picture of an Oxford University college, was
sent by a German in 1908 and has a half penny stamp on it.
"The post has been late before, but never this late," said
Nigel Holland, the hotel's manager. "This is a mystery. It's
possible the card slipped out of an envelope sent between
postcard collectors and entered the system," said a Royal
Mail spokesperson, when asked for an explanation. In another
case of late delivery, Barbara Read, of Truro, Cornwall, has
just received a postcard from a friend that was sent to her
from Scotland in 1990. "The postman said, 'Well, we do deliver
them eventually'," she said.
