Test cricket: Indian team for series against
Pakistan
New
Delhi: The national selection committee on Monday predictably
named fast medium bowler Ajit Agarkar and leg spinner Anil
Kumble in the Indian squad for the three-Test series against
Pakistan. Both players missed the one-day series due to
injuries. There were few surprises in the 15-man line-up,
with Yuvraj Singh grabbing the extra batsman's spot, while
Ramesh Powar and Murali Kartik, who were part of the ODI
squad, were both retained. The first Test starts on March
28 at Multan. The other two matches will be played in Rawalpindi
and Lahore. The squad is as follows: Sourav Ganguly (captain),
Akash Chopra, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar,
VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Parthiv Patel (wk), Ajit Agarkar,
Ramesh Powar, Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan, L Balaji, Anil
Kumble, Murali Kartik.
Imran:
Bowling coach imperative for Pak (Go
To Top)
Lahore:
Pakistan desperately needs a proper bowling coach who
could guide the bowlers to contain the extras, the country's
former captain and fast bowler Imran Khan has said. He reportedly
said that the team's present coach Javed Miandad and captain
Inzamam were batsmen and there was nobody to guide the fast
bowlers as to how they can deliver better results. "My recommendation
to the Pakistan Cricket Board is that they must have bowling
coach with the team. Bear in mind the manager, the captain
and the coach; all are batsmen and the problem Pakistan
is facing is in the bowling department," the Nation quoted
Khan as saying after the Sunday's match during a chat show
at Ten Sports. "I am not trying to create a post for myself
... I have recommended the name of Aqib Javed who could
be a good bowling coach for the team", he added.
The
cricketer-turned-politician added: "They are giving too
many extras and today they got three wickets on no balls
and by allowing star batsmen chances you are asking for
trouble. No professional team allows so many extras and
make crucial mistakes in crucial games as Pakistan did and
then consistently gets away with it." According to him,
after taking five wickets, the body language of the bowlers
turned negative, and "they started giving away useless runs".
