The researchers believe that the seeds of discontent are sown during the first 18 months of marriage and couples finally snap after two years. The study also revealed that as the years keep increasing, the chances of a split decrease as only one in 100 couples were found to separate after 14 years of marriage. According to the researchers, a marriage which lasts for five years is a good match. "You go into a relationship, you gather information and at some point you make a decision, that point seems to be two years," said Dr Michael Svarer, University of Aarhus, who led the research.
