Inflation dips to 6.5 per cent

New Delhi: Inflation fell by 0.23 per cent to a 23-week low of 6.5 per cent for the fourth consecutive week ended December 18, mainly due to cheaper food items, edibles oils and manufactured products. Analysts said they expected the impact of the monsoon to drag on growth in Asia's fourth-biggest economy in the next two quarters, underscoring the country's dependence on a sector that provides a living for more than 600 million Indians. The 6.5 per cent growth in gross domestic product in the year through July-September was marginally higher than the median forecast of 6.25 per cent in a Reuters poll and was the slowest pace of annual expansion since 5.3 per cent in April-June quarter of 2003. GDP growth has slowed from 7.4 per cent in the June quarter and 8.2 per cent in the March quarter.

Also, the zones for government, military and educational institutions would be reserved exclusively for the respective organisations. Registration for these will be offered by NIC - an organisation nominated by the Defence Ministry and ERNET.
