IIMs deny leakage of results

      Ahmedabad: The results of 2004 Common Admission Test (CAT) for the premier IIM business schools has been declared. While candidates are being notified by mail, the results have also been posted on the IIM websites. Rumours were rife yesterday about the leakage of the results, but the authorities denied any such report. "While we upload it to the website if someone is online then it is possible for the person to see the result", committee member Vijay Sherichand said denying reports in a section of the media that the results were leaked. He said that uploading the result at the website was a regular practice since the last two years. Categorically denying any leakage, he said "some people were online when the results were being uploaded and could have managed to see the result. But there is nothing unusual or against the norm if people get to see the result after it has been released on the net".

Former Andhra Minister gets seven years RI (Go To Top)

      Hyderabad: Former minister and TDP leader Ramasubba Reddy was today sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in a double murder case. Reddy was the housing minister in the Telugu Desam-government led by Chandrababu Naidu. A Hyderabad criminal court found Reddy guilty for the murder of two Congress workers at the Shadnagar bus stand in Mahbubnagar district in December 1990. He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh assembly in 1994 and 1999.

Two ultras killed in J and K (Go To Top)

     Jammu: Two suspected ultras were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri District early this morning as they were attempting to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in the area. The operation started when an ambush party of army troops noticed a group of around ten ultras sneaking into Indian side from across the LoC in Rajouri district. The infiltrators were challenged by the troops, the ultras opened fire in reply which was retaliated by the troops forcing them to flee back towards Pakistan occupied Kashmir. A member of the Indian troop, sepoy Sukhvinder Singh, was injured in the gunbattle. In another incident, which took place in Udhampur, security forces on specific inputs launched flush out operation in Mahore forest of Udhampur district around 2 p.m. yesterday. The slain militants are yet to be identified. Security forces recovered two ak-47 rifles from the site of the encounter and search operations was still continuing when the reports last came in.

Naxalites set ablaze railway station (Go To Top)

     Gaya: In an untoward incident early today, suspected CPI (Maoist) Naxalites set ablaze the Karjara railway station on Gaya-Kiul section of the East Central Railway in Bihar. According to the Magadh range DIG Sunil Kumar, "heavily-armed naxalites stormed the station in the wee hours and burnt the documents, tickets and windows". Rail traffic in the section, however, remained unaffected as no damage was caused to the tracks, he said. Raids were on to track down the Naxalites.

She came to the town dressed in a pretty Princess gown, exactly the way she dresses in her recent movie "Barbie as The Princess and The Pauper" once again, she did what she does best...made her young friends feel extra special. Clad as a pretty Princess Anneliese, the Barbie captivated the hearts of the little girls with her message of, LOVE, FRIENDSHIP AND CARE. For the little girls it was an extraordinary treat as they met, greeted and posed with their real-life Barbie. "I love Barbie very much. She is very beautiful and pretty. I feel very lucky that I have come here to meet her," said Aanchal, a little girl who was crowned as "Barbie's Best Friends". Responding to a question as to why Barbie is the most preferred doll, another girl said Barbie makes them comfortable and its fun playing with her. "No, I just like Barbie because she is very pretty.....it's fun playing with her," said Tanvi, another winner of the contest.

      Karun Gera, vice president (Sales) if the Mattel Toys said that the brand has its finger on the pulse of girls around the world. "Its our way of bringing Barbie alive for the children, Barbie epitomises Love, Friendship and care for all the children, so its our way of getting kids together ensuring that this year a girl dressed as Barbie came alive in front of them. Barbie is a person who overcomes all virtues of love, friendship and care," he said. The Barbie doll was introduced as a teenage fashion model, but in the years that followed she has taken on many aspirational roles. She has represented 45 countries, and has had over 80 careers. She has tackled almost every conceivable profession, including dentist, doctor, fire-fighter, astronaut, palaeontologist-even Presidential candidate. She was invented in 1959 by Ruth Handler (co-founder of Mattel), whose own daughter was called Barbara. Barbie was introduced to the world at the American Toy Fair in New York. These dolls are on sale at between 15.2 and 32.7 US dollars, and come with accessories such as toy mobile phone Mattel toys has market share of little more than 8 percent in a sector that it should be able to dominate. It aims for a market share of 32 percent. In order to increase revenues, Mattel has tied up with seven licensing vendors, as well as 14 licensing manufacturers, to produce apparel, bags, accessories, cosmetics and other merchandise.

Zaheera denies taking money from Gujarat MLA (Go To Top)

      Mumbai: Prime eyewitness in the Best Bakery carnage Zaheera Sheikh, deposing in the ongoing retrial into the case, today staunchly denied that she had taken any money from Gujarat MLA Madhu Shrivastava to retract her earlier statement indicting him. During her cross-examination, Special Public Prosecutor Manjula Rao asked Zaheera if Shrivastava had promised her Rs 35 lakh to give false evidence, and whether she had already collected Rs 18 lakh. She replied: "Maine koyi paisa nahi liya hai. Koi kisi ko paisa nahi deta hai. Maine Allah ke naam par kasam khai hai, main jhoot nahi bolungi kyunki mujhe Allah ko mooh dikhana hai (I have not taken any money. No one gives money to any one. I have taken oath in the name of Allah to speak the truth, as I have to show my face to Allah)." News portal Tehelka in New Delhi today played a videotape purportedly showing Shrivastava telling a Vadodara corporator that he had paid Zaheera Rs 18 lakh. Talking to reporters after the day's proceedings, Zaheera again denied the allegations that she received money to give false evidence. "It is a conspiracy by Battu (Madhu Shrivastava's cousin Chandrakant) and Teesta Setalvad to malign my image," she alleged. Zaheera reiterated that her earlier complaint against Shrivastava was made at the behest of human rights activist Teesta Setalvad. The prime witness, who turned hostile yesterday during her deposition, said she did not know Madhu Shrivastava. Zahira's cross examination in the special court of Additional Sessions Judge Abhay Thipsay, who is presiding over the retrial into the Best Bakery case, will continue tomorrow.
