IIMs
deny leakage of results
Ahmedabad:
The results of 2004 Common Admission Test (CAT) for
the premier IIM business schools has been declared. While
candidates are being notified by mail, the results have
also been posted on the IIM websites. Rumours were rife
yesterday about the leakage of the results, but the authorities
denied any such report. "While we upload it to the website
if someone is online then it is possible for the person
to see the result", committee member Vijay Sherichand said
denying reports in a section of the media that the results
were leaked. He said that uploading the result at the website
was a regular practice since the last two years. Categorically
denying any leakage, he said "some people were online when
the results were being uploaded and could have managed to
see the result. But there is nothing unusual or against
the norm if people get to see the result after it has been
released on the net".

denies taking money from Gujarat MLA (Go

Mumbai:
Prime eyewitness in the Best Bakery carnage Zaheera
Sheikh, deposing in the ongoing retrial into the case, today
staunchly denied that she had taken any money from Gujarat
MLA Madhu Shrivastava to retract her earlier statement indicting
him. During her cross-examination, Special Public Prosecutor
Manjula Rao asked Zaheera if Shrivastava had promised her
Rs 35 lakh to give false evidence, and whether she had already
collected Rs 18 lakh. She replied: "Maine koyi paisa nahi
liya hai. Koi kisi ko paisa nahi deta hai. Maine Allah ke
naam par kasam khai hai, main jhoot nahi bolungi kyunki
mujhe Allah ko mooh dikhana hai (I have not taken any money.
No one gives money to any one. I have taken oath in the
name of Allah to speak the truth, as I have to show my face
to Allah)." News portal Tehelka in New Delhi today played
a videotape purportedly showing Shrivastava telling a Vadodara
corporator that he had paid Zaheera Rs 18 lakh. Talking
to reporters after the day's proceedings, Zaheera again
denied the allegations that she received money to give false
evidence. "It is a conspiracy by Battu (Madhu Shrivastava's
cousin Chandrakant) and Teesta Setalvad to malign my image,"
she alleged. Zaheera reiterated that her earlier complaint
against Shrivastava was made at the behest of human rights
activist Teesta Setalvad. The prime witness, who turned
hostile yesterday during her deposition, said she did not
know Madhu Shrivastava. Zahira's cross examination in the
special court of Additional Sessions Judge Abhay Thipsay,
who is presiding over the retrial into the Best Bakery case,
will continue tomorrow.
