Madonna fears same end as John Lennon (Go To Top)

     London: Pop diva Madonna is terrified of being shot by a crazed stalker just like Beatles legend John Lennon, reports the Sun. The 'Material Girl' is being hounded by a wealthy middle-aged man, who has been keeping track of all her activities, since the start of her Re-Invention world tour in May. Madge's stalker has been apparently plaguing her with threatening letters that are hand-delivered to her house, confirming her fears that she will meet the same fate as Lennon.

Ex-guard rips Di's cop killing claim (Go To Top)

     New York: Princess Diana's former bodyguard has rubbished her allegation that a policeman who was her alleged lover, was "bumped off." Ken Wharfe, author of the book "Diana: Closely Guarded Secret" and Diana's bodyguard from 1986 till 1993, has said that officer Barry Mannakee died in a road accident and was not killed. In a videotape Diana made with her voice coach, Diana suggested that Mannakee might have been murdered and called him "the greatest fella I've ever had." "It was all found out and he was chucked out. And then he was killed. And I think he was bumped off," Diana says in the tape, calling Mannakee's death "the biggest blow" of her life. However, Wharfe, who took over the bodyguard job shortly after Mannakee was transferred, rubbishes all these claims. "It's purely speculative," he was quoted by the New York Daily News, as saying. Mannakee had died in a in a motorcycle accident a year after he was removed from Diana's security squad when the rumors of their alleged affair surfaced.

Leonardo denies rumours of a split with Gisele (Go To Top)

     London: 'Titanic' star Leonardo DiCaprio has rubbished rumours that he has split with his girlfriend Gisele Bundchen. DiCaprio revealed that he and the Brazilian supermodel are still very much together, despite recent reports claiming they had gone their separate ways. "I've made it a policy never, ever, to talk about my private relationships. But I am in a relationship. Have been for some time. And part of being in a relationship is loyalty. And I will say that Gisele is a wonderful, wonderful, human being," the actor was quoted by Hello magazine as saying. "She's so much a part of who I am that I can't even talk about myself without talking about her. She's my moral cornerstone," he added.

Dannii Minogue strips for AIDS awareness (Go To Top)

     London: Singer Dannii Minogue reportedly posed naked with just a red ribbon to raise awareness on World AIDS Day. "Pictures can be very powerful - we wanted to make this campaign fun and sexy," the singer was quoted by Annaova, as saying. "I guess it comes from knowing a lot of people in the entertainment and having friends who have been affected by Aids. It's an ugly, ugly, ugly thing but it is something that is real in my life." she added.

    London: If rumours are to be believed then Hollywood beauty Liz Hurley may wed her boyfriend Arun Nayar by June next year, according to Hello magazine. The two whose recent visit to India caused much speculation about their marriage are reportedly planning on a lavish traditional Indian wedding. The buzz is also around that Liz's friends have been told to keep their diaries clear for next May/June, when she plans to tie the knot.

Oliver Stone wants Meryl Streep to play Margaret Thatcher (Go To Top)

    London: Hollywood director Oliver Stone, who is famous for making movies based on real life heroes like John F Kennedy and singer Jim Morrison, has revealed that his next movie will be based the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Stone also said that he is going to approach multi Oscar winner Meryl Streep to essay the role of the Iron Lady. "Margaret Thatcher is an amazing woman and a good subject for a film. I'm thinking about Meryl Streep to play the Iron Lady," The Sun quoted Stone as saying.

Blanchett's Hepburn portrayal makes her Oscar favourite (Go To Top)

     Sydney: With the race for the Oscars, which will be announced in March next year, getting hotter day by day, film critics aver the Kate Blanchett could finally take home the honour this time around. The actress, who had been nominated for 'Elizabeth' in 1998, but lost to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, will be nominated for her portrayal of yesteryears screen goddess Katherine Hepburn in her latest film 'The Aviators,' reports The Courier Mail. Hollywood heart-throb Leonardo DiCaprio plays the role of Howard Hughes in the movie and Hepburn was one of many beautiful starlets Hughes romanced. Experts say that Blanchett really pulled off the character of the feisty redhead and four-time Oscar winner in the film. "The industry is buzzing about Cate's portrayal of Kate. She certainly has the momentum and buzz now. I would say she is the frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress, but whether or not she can maintain that is something else of course," the report quoted an Oscar expert as saying. Meanwhile, actresses Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet and Annette Benign, all previous Oscar nominees, are also being tipped as strong contenders for the best actress Oscar.

Mira Nair like 'Vanity Fair's' Becky Sharp (Go To Top)

     London: Acclaimed Indian director Mira Nair says that making the movie 'Vanity Fair' with actress Reese Witherspoon was like a dream come true for her as she identified with the lead character of 'Vanity Fair,' Becky Sharp, for a very long time. The director of movies like 'Salaam Bombay' and 'Mississippi Masala' says that as she grew older though, she started identifying more with the book's author William Thackeray, because like him she also came to London as a youngster. "First, when I was 16, it was Becky Sharp, who is a completely memorable character, because I recognised myself in her - I recognised all the ladies who did not want to be ladies, who wanted to buck the system that they were in," BBC quoted her as saying. "As I got older and read it, I think it was Thackeray's clarity - his clear-sightedness about his own society, the fact that he was born in India but came to England as a young man - that gave him the eyes of an outsider, and yet he was an insider," she added.

Finding Neverland wins NBR Best Film award (Go To Top)

     New York: 'Finding Neverland', the Johnny Depp starrer biopic about Peter Pan author JM Barrie, has been named 2004's Best Film by the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures. According to E-Online, actor Jamie Foxx's portrayal of great musician Ray Charles in the movie 'Ray' earned him the Best Actor title. Annette Bening was named Best Actress for role the art- house drama 'Being Julia'. Oliver Stone and Shrek failed to pick any awards.
