Tony Blair to Beckhams' rescue (Go To Top)

London: Prime Minister Tony Blair has warned the British media that invading the privacy of celebrities such as David and Victoria Beckham was not always in the public interest. According to Ananova, Blair was responding to a question from Labour backbencher Clive Soley, who criticised the continuing and crude coverage of the England soccer captain's alleged infidelities. The British PM's comments followed the publication of a new poll showing that the majority of people were in favour of a privacy law for celebrities. According to the new Guardian/ICM poll, some 69 per cent of respondents said that there should be legal protection from media intrusion for celebrities. Just 11 per cent believed that there was a legitimate public interest in newspapers publishing claims about Beckham's private life. However, newspaper sales figures prove that the public still has a voracious appetite for allegations delving into celebrities' private lives, adds the report. Interestingly, 'The News of the World' added that there were 100,000 extra sales to its circulation when it broke the sensational Beckham sex scandal.

Thurman deserved Best Actress Oscar: Quentin Tarantino (Go To Top)

Tarantino strongly feels that Uma's demanding role in the 'Kill Bill' movies made her a more deserving candidate for the Oscar. Ironically, Uma was not even nominated for the Best Actress category. Neil Morrisey buys Dylan's pub for 670,000 pounds (Go To Top)

London: Hollywood actor Neil Morrisey has bought Dylan Thomas's favourite pub for 670,000 pounds. According to Ananova, the 'Men Behaving Badly' star snapped up the historic Brown's Hotel in the west Wales village of Laugharne at a packed evening auction at the local memorial hall. The voice of TV series 'Bob the Builder' is now expected to fix up the Welsh bard's favourite watering hole and turn it into a mecca for tourists. Dylan, the booze lover poet, was a long-term regular who was reputedly inspired by the characters he met there to create 'Under Milkwood' and some of his other memorable works. Locals had packed out the hall in the hope of glimpsing one of a clutch of potential celebrity buyers which speculation had linked to the property, says the report. Morrisey, who already co-owns a pub in the village, was regarded as a front runner from the outset but Mick Jagger and Pierce Brosnan are both believed to have declared an interest in the property. Tommy Watts, 72, the pub's long-time landlord, said that he was thrilled to hand over watering hole to Morrisey. "As the voice of Bob the Builder he is probably well placed to exploit the full potential of the property and fix it up," the report quoted him as saying.

Warner strikes back at Madge (Go To Top)

Washington: After Madonna's label Maverick Records sued long time partners Warner Music last month, Warner has got back at Madonna by accusing her label of causing a loss of 66 million dollars to it since 1999. Madonna and business partners Guy Oseary and Ronnie Dashev recently filed a court order to terminate the relationship between their company and Warner Music. They also sued Warner for 200 million dollars, claiming that their mismanagement was responsible for Maverick's loss. However, Warner Music is demanding that they pay 92.5 million dollars for the split, plus the value of Warner's interest in the label. According to IMDb, if Madonna and her partners are not able to pay the sum, the record label, which signed on artists like Alanis Morissette and Michelle Branch will be turned into a "purely passive economic interest". This would mean that Warner Music will take over the company and Madonna will not get a share of the profits.
